According to the manufacturer, the particularly dynamically tuned chassis and the new Michelin sports tires ensure an extremely high level of grip. The all-wheel drive with torque vectoring is also unique in this segment, according to the supplier - with this technology, the Insignia GSi is said to turn into corners more agilely and offer the best lateral control for maximum stability.
Focus on sports
For an even more active driving experience, the new eight-speed automatic transmission can optionally be shifted with paddles on the steering wheel. The new model makes its sportiness clear with large chrome air intakes at the front and a characteristic rear spoiler for the desired downforce at the rear axle.
Newly tuned chassis
Shorter springs lower the sedan by 10 millimeters, while special sports dampers reduce body movements. The Brembo four-piston brakes and the steering have been retuned. The Insignia GSi comes with the FlexRide electro-mechanical suspension as standard. Exclusively for the GSi, there is also Competition mode, which is activated via the ESP button. If this is pressed twice, the ESP now allows the experienced driver greater yaw angles with the traction control switched off. The sports sedan is powered by a two-liter turbo gasoline engine developing 191 kW/260 hp with a maximum torque of 400 Newton meters. In the interior, the dynamically flattened leather steering wheel at the bottom, the aluminum pedals and the black headliner create an ambience in the style of a very special sports sedan.
33 years of tradition
The Insignia GSi continues a long tradition of sporty Opel models with this designation. The Manta GSi and the Kadett GSi first caused a sensation in 1984. Just four years later, the Kadett 2.0i GSi 16V produced 150 hp thanks to two overhead camshafts and four-valve technology. This engine was also found in the successor model, the Astra. Alternatively, there was an Astra GSi with 1800 cm3 and 125 hp from 1993. These sporty models were also available in the various Corsa generations: It all started with the 100-hp Corsa A (1988) and ended with the Corsa D in August 2012 - temporarily!
Presentation at the IAA
The Insignia GSi will celebrate its world premiere at the IAA in Frankfurt (September 14-24, 2017) and will be available to order in Switzerland from November.
