Hyundai has dispensed with buttons and switches; all functions of the infotainment system and air conditioning are operated via touch sensors. The dashboard has a flat surface without a housing.
The fully digitally configurable dual cockpit consists of a 10.25-inch touchscreen for infotainment integrated into the vertical center console and an equally large instrument display.
Longer, wider and more legroom
The Korean has gained slightly in all dimensions and by up to two centimeters. It measures 4.50 meters in length, is 1.87 meters wide and 1.65 meters high.
The wheelbase is extended by one centimeter to 2.68 meters, while rear legroom is increased by over two and a half centimeters. Please also see the gallery.
Up to 1799 liters of space in the luggage compartment
Trunk volume grew by 33 to 107 liters, depending on the selected equipment and powertrain. This means up to 620 liters of luggage space in normal condition and up to 1799 liters with the rear seats folded down, which can be split 40:20:40.
Side airbag between front occupants
Safety features also include a side airbag that deploys between the two front seats to prevent the driver's and front passenger's heads from colliding. The automatic emergency brake assistant has a turn-off function that detects oncoming cars when the driver wants to turn left.
Automatic aids when parking
A cruise control system with navigation-based lane departure warning and autonomous cruise control is also on board.
A special feature is the blind spot monitor, which extends the viewing angle of the exterior mirror via the instrument display. Among other things, the Tucson also has automatic parking assistance that can be controlled from outside the vehicle.
New features include Terrain Mode for different road conditions and adaptive damping technology for greater ride comfort and less body movement.
Choice of drives from 136 to 265 hp
The Tucson's gasoline and diesel engines are each available in a 48-volt hybrid variant and most are also available with all-wheel drive. They produce between 136 hp and 180 hp.
The full hybrid with 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine and 44 kW (60 hp) electric drive has a system output of 230 hp and maximum torque of 350 Newton meters. The plug-in variant with 265 hp (195 kW) is to follow in the spring.
The first models of the new Tucson - hybrid, diesel and gasoline, including the 48-volt mild hybrid - will be available towards the end of this year. The plug-in hybrid version and the N Line equipment variant are planned for the end of 2021.
