Hyundai: Kona as hybrid with 141 hp system

THE NEXT STEP Hyundai also offers the Kona as a hybrid. The 105 hp (77 kW) 1.6-liter gasoline engine together with an electric motor that delivers 32 kW (45 hp). Prices are not yet known. Kona
The Kona's six-speed dual-clutch transmission features an economy mode and paddle shifters.

The system output adds up to 141 hp (104 kW) and 265 Newton meters of torque. The Eco Driving Assistant included in the optional 10.25-inch navigation package intelligently controls the charging and discharging of the battery in uphill and downhill situations to maximize the use of the electric motor.

Optimal use of the electric motor
For example, if the battery charge level is low and the system detects an incline based on the navigation data, the gasoline engine runs slightly longer to charge the battery before the uphill section and then relieve the burden on the combustion engine. At the same time, the Hyundai Kona Hybrid calculates the optimum use of the electric motor from the remaining battery charge and the uphill section still to be driven. This means that the battery, which is then discharged, can completely absorb the electricity recuperated during the following downhill drive.

Info from the navi how to save
In addition, when route guidance is activated, the navigation system draws the driver's attention to potential savings at an early stage. For example, if the car leaves the highway and the exit leads into a tight bend before which the speed must be reduced considerably, the driver receives this information. This allows the driver to let off the gas early, minimize braking power, recuperate more and drive more efficiently and consume less fuel overall.

Cruise control system on request
Hyundai has added additional functions to the safety package for the Kona Hybrid. In addition to pedestrians crossing the road, it also detects cyclists and automatically initiates emergency braking in the event of an imminent collision.
The optional adaptive cruise control system now maintains speed and distance to the vehicle in front even in traffic jams. Also new and optionally available are intelligent traffic sign recognition, which compares the real-time images from the front camera with the navigation data, and active lane departure warning.

Vehicle information via smartphone
After the Ioniq, the Kona Hybrid is the second Hyundai to receive the optional Blue Link telematics system. It can be used to call up relevant vehicle information via smartphone and control some functions (for example, opening and locking the car, sending a destination to the navigation system).
The hybrid version of the Kona will be available from Hyundai's official sales partners from September 2019.
