With its move towards electrification, Hyundai Motorsport wants to open up new technical fields. Since its foundation in 2012, the company from Alzenau (Germany) has established itself in rallying and on the circuit.
Logical continuation of activities
The ongoing trend towards hybrid technology and electromobility in the automotive industry is also reflected in motorsport. New racing series and regulations are creating new challenges that enable Hyundai to demonstrate its technical capabilities, ecological expertise and passion for motorsport.
Team Director Andrea Adamo: "A new era is now beginning for Hyundai Motorsport. This is a logical extension of our previous motorsport activities. Our team in Alzenau has been working hard on the electrically powered vehicle for months. It picks up on the latest developments and innovations in the automotive industry."
Entry into the ETCR?
Hyundai is not specifying the purpose for which the electric racing car will be built. The only possible purpose is the ETCR, which is set to make its debut in 2020 with electrically powered touring cars in accordance with TCR regulations. Hyundai would be the second manufacturer after Seat and Cupra to commit to this and present a suitable car.
