Gumpert: First Edition is called Nathalie 🎥

EXCLUSIVE The world's first series-produced vehicle with a methanol fuel cell, from Gumpert Aiways Automobile GmbH, goes into production in these weeks. Organic lightweight material such as flax is half used in production for Nathalie.

Under the leadership of engineer and chief developer Roland Gumpert, the first Nathalie production model with a hydrogen- and electricity-producing methanol fuel cell is put on its broad wheels.

Independent of charging stations

Roland Gumpert: "It was my idea of an electric car that doesn't stop when the battery is empty that set us on this path. Now we are presenting the world's first series-produced vehicle with a methanol fuel cell that is independent of charging stations or special hydrogen filling stations."

Scissor doors are feature
In the evolution to the production model, work has been carried out on many characteristic points compared with the prototype version presented last year. The most striking feature of Nathalie are the doors, which have been designed as scissor doors in this class of super sports coupe with purebred sports car genes.

Nathalie
In typical Roland Gumpert fashion, the Nathalie First Edition with all-wheel drive is ready for the race track.

Biological lightweight material

Lorenz Loew, chief designer at Ideenion, who designs for the sports car brand, says: "When developing the Nathalie's series design, technical constraints helped refine the vehicle's proportions and sharpen the front and side lines. The vehicle has grown in all the right places. Progressive is the use of biological lightweight materials such as flax. The First Edition uses up to 50 percent of this material, unlike the previous carbon outer skin of the prototype range."

Refueling takes three minutes
The production version has a 15-kW methanol fuel cell that permanently extracts hydrogen from methanol to generate electricity. This enables driving in the city and overland almost without using the buffer battery.

The energy capacity of the system consisting of a methanol power cell with a 65-liter tank and buffer battery is 190 kWh. The vehicle can be refueled like a conventional passenger car in three minutes.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 mph is 2.5 seconds, and the top speed is 300 mph thanks to two synchronized 2-speed transmissions (manufacturer's specifications).

An FIA-compliant lattice tube frame with roll cage ensures optimum safety here.

Delivery service is overnight
It is fueled with commercially available methanol. The supply is free of charge for customers in the first year after delivery. An overnight delivery service is planned for customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and will be expanded throughout Europe.

Pure power made in Germany
The vehicles are produced at Gumpert Aiways Automobile GmbH in Ingolstadt, true to the Roland Gumpert motto "Pure German Speed made in Germany".

The Nathalie First Edition is a special edition to mark the product launch. The sophisticated special equipment and striking paint finish of this edition are included in the base price of 407,000 euros for this first model series. The first vehicles will be available from the first half of 2021.
