The electric motor of the Mustang Dragster provides a system output of more than 1400 hp.
The factory race car is expected to cover the quarter mile (402.34 meters) in around eight seconds, reaching a top speed from a standstill beyond 274 km/h (170 miles per hour). Almost more impressive than the 1400 hp output is the maximum torque, which at 1500 newton meters provides brute thrust.
Homage to the 1968 bolide
The new Mustang Mach-E is the first all-electric member of the legendary Mustang family. At the same time, the name of the electric race car is a tribute to the dragster variant Mustang Cobra Jet introduced by Ford in 1968, which has since claimed victories on the quarter-mile acceleration track.
Mark Rushbrook, Director of Ford Performance: "The Cobra Jet 1400 presented us with a whole new challenge, but one that we were happy to accept. This project allows us to integrate an all-electric drive into a race car for the first time, with which we had already gained a lot of experience. As a result, we know numerous measurement and performance values, which we naturally want to improve."
First launch still in 2020
The world debut will take place later this year at a drag racing event in the U.S., where the all-electric race car will demonstrate its potential to fans, the media and competitors. Until then, Ford will be completing further test drives with the new super sports car.
