Its mid-mounted V10 engine produces 449 KW/610 hp, revs up to 8700 rpm and has a maximum torque of 560 Newton meters (factory specifications). Its efficiency technologies include the "cylinder on demand" (COD) system, which shuts down one bank of cylinders at low to medium load, and dual injection into the intake manifold and combustion chambers. If the driver takes his foot off the gas at more than 55 km/h, the engine is disconnected from the drive - the R8 Spyder virtually "sails" at idle.
Quattro, of course
Behind the mid-engine sits a seven-speed S tronic. The dual-clutch transmission transmits power via a cardan shaft to the quattro drive on the front axle. A mechanical limited-slip differential provides traction on the rear axle. The driver can choose between comfort, auto, dynamic and individual modes. In the standard performance mode, the dry, wet and snow programs are added. They adapt the characteristics of the drivetrain and chassis to the friction coefficient of the road.
Flat and strong
The vehicle is 4.43 meters long and 1.94 meters wide, but only 1.24 meters high. The defining element at the front is the wide, flat single frame with anthracite gray honeycomb grille and chrome-plated frame and emblem. Beneath it is a low-lying carbon spoiler that directs the air around the wheels. The backbone is the space frame in multi-material construction. It combines components made of aluminum and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP). Empty and without the driver, it weighs 1695 kilograms; dry it is only 1587 kilograms - 25 kilograms less than the Audi R8 Spyder V10.
Individualization
With the "Audi exclusive" program, customers can individualize the sports car almost indefinitely. In addition to the eleven regular paint finishes, the range includes freely selectable colors and matt-effect paint finishes. The soft top is available in three colors, and there is a choice of five for the sideblades. Like the door sill trims, the sideblades can be personalized with lettering and the color can also be completely customized to the customer's taste. The Audi R8 Spyder V10 plus will be at dealerships in late summer 2017. The base price in Switzerland is CHF 252,600.
