The Dacia Spring will be the first purely electric city car with four real seats.
Founded in Romania in 1966, the car manufacturer has always been associated with Renault. Its first model was the Renault 8, which was assembled in Romania using parts from France and sold locally as the Dacia 1100.
In 1999, the Renault Group acquired the Romanian manufacturer with a clear vision of using Dacia's know-how and geographical location to market the most affordable three-box sedan in an Eastern Europe that was undergoing reconstruction at the time.
Cost optimization in every phase
For the first time in the automotive industry, a car was developed using the design-to-cost method. This innovative method at the time turned the logic of traditional design on its head.
Cost optimization in every phase of vehicle development was the top priority. The final sales price, taking into account all technical constraints, accompanied the process from start to finish.
Purchase price of a cheap used car
Launched in 2004, the Dacia Logan kept all its promises. The purchase price at the level of a (cheap) used car and the qualities of a new vehicle made it so successful that it was marketed throughout Europe from 2005. Dacia became the benchmark for a new type of car consumption.
In 2010, Dacia brought about the next automotive revolution: the launch of the Dacia Duster. With the now best-selling model, Dacia democratized access to the SUV segment, which previously consisted exclusively of luxury class models.
Reliable, robust and inexpensive
With its other models, too, Dacia always aligned itself with its own maxim by revolutionizing the respective segment with simple, reliable, robust and extremely affordable cars.
Dacia continued to expand its range with the Logan MCV estate in 2007, followed by the Dacia Lodgy (MPV) and Dokker (MPV and van) in 2012.
Affordable electric vehicles
And the next revolution is just around the corner. Building on Groupe Renault's 10 years of experience, Dacia will launch affordable electric vehicles. Unveiled in March 2020, the Dacia Spring show car is the brand's first all-electric model.
It will also be Dacia's first city car. A 5-door vehicle with four real seats and a range of almost 200 kilometers.
Dacia and the Swiss representatives are celebrating its anniversary with a special series in the striking color Iron Blue and the number 15.
