The design of the VZ5 is intensified by the new Taiga Grey color. A paint finish that has been specially developed.
And that's not all. But first things first, because there is more to celebrate. For the premiere of the VZ5, the Spaniards presented the first floating Formentor.
Together with Spanish shipbuilder De Antonio Yachts, Cupra is letting the eight-meter yacht D28 Formentor off the leash.
A fully equipped bathroom is on board
The deck layout follows the walk-around principle, which means that the superstructure can be circumnavigated. Ten passengers can travel on the D28 Formentor, they can use various sun deck areas, in addition there is a fully equipped bathroom. A stern platform allows the yacht to be extended by half a meter.
The 400-hp showboat is the basis for a limited edition of the D28, which is scheduled to go on sale at the end of 2021. The prices have not yet been set. Next year, Cupra boss Wayne Griffiths promises, "a hybrid variant will follow.
The first Cupra yachts will be delivered to customers at the end of 2021. A hybrid variant is scheduled to set sail in 2022.
390 hp and 480 Nm maximum torque
Owners of a VZ5 have to settle for a bit less power. The Cupra Formentor VZ5 gets a five-cylinder heart from Audi with 390 hp output here. The 2.5-liter TSI engine (known from Audi's RS 3 and RS Q3) stacks 390 hp and 480 Nm of maximum torque in the Formentor VZ5.
The VZ5 stands for Veloz in Spanish, which means fast. Incidentally, the model name comes from Cape Formentor in Mallorca.
Rhythmic and unique sound
Cupra Formentor VZ5 will be quite exclusive, because the edition of the car is limited to 7000 units. Its power unit combines direct injection and turbocharging.
Once challenged, the Spaniard delivers a rhythmic and unique engine sound from the four copper-colored exhaust pipes. The mood rises with the revs.
The engine is coupled with a seven-speed DSG. With this combination, the Cupra Formentor VZ5 reaches 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds according to the factory and has a top speed of 250 km/h.
Adaptive chassis control with 15 levels
The Formentor VZ5 offers various driving modes that can be easily selected via a rotary element on the steering wheel. The 4Drive all-wheel drive system is also on board.
Another plus: adaptive chassis control (DCC) with 15 levels of damping adjustment continuously provides the best set-up for each wheel, depending on driving conditions and the driving mode selected by the driver.
Lots of carbon and a striking hood
The widened wheel arches of the Formentor VZ5 are fitted with 20-inch Alus and 18-inch six-piston Akebono brake calipers. The VZ5 features a lot of carbon fiber, and the striking hood immediately catches the eye. Further down, the bumper gets a modified grille.
Below the headlights in the Cupra signature design are two air intakes that emphasize the car's more aggressive face. The VZ5-specific rear diffuser made of carbon fiber and the diagonal quad exhaust pipes with copper trim characterize the rear view:
Dark aluminum and copper accents
The interior of the VZ5 is dominated by dark aluminum and copper-colored accents. The so-called CupBucket seats - available in either petrol blue or black leather - are positioned low in the interior and offer a more ergonomic, sporty seating position. You immediately feel at ease.
Other highlights include the typical Cupra steering wheel, 12-inch infotainment and various connectivity solutions. This is what makes a car fun.
