How VW would have loved to have the 400 hp five-cylinder turbo of the four rings under the hood of the Golf RS - transversely mounted in the familiar manner, of course. But Audi obviously didn't want the re-sharpened version of the already sporty VW Golf R to be too close to the approaching Audi RS3.

All-wheel drive and dual-clutch transmission
Instead, the growling five-cylinder engine that drives the Audi RS Q3, among others, to top sporting performance is now housed in the Cupra Formentor, which is positioned almost identically.

In order to maintain a slight gap to the Ingolstadt model, the Cupra Formentor with its 2.5 liter turbo engine does not roar with 400 hp, but 390 hp and 480 Nm of maximum torque. From a standing start, the all-wheel drive VZ5 and dual-clutch gearbox accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.

Vehicle for all true car enthusiasts

Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Cupra and SSet: "The Formentor is a symbol of the brand's tradition. The even more extreme five-cylinder engine complements the existing range of conventional combustion engines and performance-oriented hybrid technology. The Formentor will capture the hearts of all true car enthusiasts. And this is exactly what the has set itself the goal of tapping into new customer segments in this way."

Control elements as in the normal Formentor
The sporty, ambitious customer can choose between Taiga Grey, Midnight Black, Magnetic Tech Matt and Petrol Blue Matt paint finishes. The sports seats inside are upholstered in a choice of blue or black leather and brown nappa leather. The equipment, controls and displays are already familiar from the normal Cupra Formentor.

Copper tailpipes and lowered chassis
Visually, the Formentor VZ5 does not differ significantly from its 310 hp brother, the VZ 310, but it does have four copper tailpipes, a chassis lowered by ten millimeters with variable damper control and drive programs that can be switched through on the grippy sports steering wheel.
To ensure that not only the acceleration up to 250 km/h is right, but also the braking performance, there is a 20-inch wheel set and an 18-inch sports brake system for the best deceleration values.

Prices for the Cupra Formentor have not yet been set; the market launch is scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year.
