Citroën: CX 5 for Président de la République

LONG TRADITION They belong to France like baguette and vin rouge. Citroën's large sedans have made history over many years and always had their regular place in the fleet of French presidents. Citroën CX 5
Citroën has set the market launch of its new flagship CX 5 for early next year.

But with the end of the C6, which is now only coming off the production line in China, and the quietly departed C5, there was no suitable vehicle at the top of the model range. That will change in the coming months when the new C5 X is launched.

Influence from the concept vehicle CXperience
The design, with its elongated hood under which a diesel will no longer be responsible for propulsion, was influenced by the CXperience concept vehicle shown at the Paris Motor Show in 2016....

Behind the large tailgate, there is enough space for the equivalent of 545 liters of luggage, which can be increased to 1640 liters when the tailgate is folded down. A low loading sill makes loading easier.

For the powertrain, the Citroën developers chose two options. There is a choice of two gasoline engines with 130 or 180 hp and a plug-in hybrid that replaces the diesel.

Inside fine materials and loving details
For the interior of the 4.80-meter-long and 1.86-meter-wide C5 X, the brand's creatives chose fine materials, which they adorned with loving details. For example, the seams of the seats and trim have a double-angle design.

Thanks to the wheelbase of 2.78 meters, there are generous proportions in the back seat, where perhaps once again a Président de la République will sit, and the comfortably designed seats achieve long-haul qualities thanks to new upholstery.

Laminated side windows at the front and rear protect against acoustic nuisance from outside. The (optional) panoramic glass roof brings plenty of brightness into the interior.

Head up display is part of the delivery program
The centrally located twelve-inch screen can be operated like a tablet by swiping and via voice recognition. It responds promptly when spoken to with "Hello Citroën.

In addition, important functions can still be operated in analog mode. A head-up display is also part of the delivery program.

Four USB ports keep you in touch with the digital outside world, and an inductive charging surface awaits your smartphone.

Reduced tendency to roll when cornering
The Advanced Comfort active suspension, also known as "flying carpet", already introduced on the brand's other models, has been revised and is now used with three ride settings. Among other things, the roll tendency during cornering has been curbed in the further development.

Also on board is an assistance system for level 2 autonomous driving, which will be interesting to see.
