Bugatti: This is how the W16 of the Bolide sounds 🎥
SOON IN SERIES The Bugatti Bolide was presented as a thought experiment at the end of 2020. Now this ambitious dream is set to become reality, with the prototype of the fast Bugatti entering the next phase of development.
At The Quail motorsport meeting in August 2021, Bugatti announced that the Bolide would be developed for a limited small series of 40 units. For this model, Bugatti focused on the W16 turbocharged engine and began to build the lightest possible vehicle for the race track around it.
The body, which has been reduced to the minimum, has been designed for maximum downforce. In its final form, the bolide is expected to achieve 1600 hp and a dry weight of 1450 kilograms, thus even undercutting the magic 1:1 ratio. You can get an audio sample of the mighty power plant in the video recorded last year at the Concours d'Elegance Villa D'Este in Como.
Perfect for the race track
The development of the Bolide represents tailor-made craftsmanship. A carbon monocoque reshaped compared with the Chiron required the redesign of numerous components. Cooling, transmission and suspension had to be integrated into the extremely compact and aerodynamically designed car. The engine always operates with all four turbochargers, making it perfect for the race track where engine speed is constantly high.
Optimization of the chassis
The braking system also offers a new level of performance. The Bolide uses even more heat-resistant carbon brakes that have to be thoroughly warmed up to develop their full effect. In keeping with its race car status, the Bolide is fitted with Michelin slick tires, as used in LMDh cars in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The first deliveries of the Bolide will begin in 2024, with the manufacturer quoting a net unit price of four million euros.
