BMW: M2 Competition now with 410 hp power
FULL POWER Ahead When BMW launched the 02 in the mid-1960s, the sports sedan par excellence was born. The series was crowned in 1973 by the 2002 Turbo, which at the time produced a tremendous 170 hp. The niche once occupied by the 02 is now occupied by BMW's 2 Series - and the top model goes by the name M2. Until now, the M2 has been powered by a three-liter, six-cylinder engine that produces 370 hp and is based on the regular BMW engine lineup. Now M GmbH in Garching is taking things up a notch: Under the hood of the revised model, which goes by the designation M2 Competition, there is now a 410-hp high-performance engine that comes from the legendary M3 and has been only slightly throttled for use in the M2.
The limits of liability are extremely high
The new M2 is very stiff, not least thanks to additional bracing; it steers precisely into corners, and the limits of grip are extremely high. But they can be easily broken through via the gas pedal thanks to the high engine output, and the M2 has a good-natured character. BMW uses mixed tires - 245/35 ZR 19 at the front, 265/35 ZR 19 at the rear. The rear axle is largely the same as the M3. So much performance also has its price. And it starts at 77,900 francs.
