Bentley: Flying Spur comes as a hybrid
TREND Bentley wants to be an all-electric brand by 2030. To increase its eco-footprint, Bentley has put the Flying Spur Hybrid on wheels. It is the brand's second plug-in hybrid. And also the most powerful. The sedan is powered by a combination of 2.9-liter biturbo V6 and electric motor, which together make 544 hp and 750 [...]
The sedan is powered by a combination of a 2.9-liter biturbo V6 and an electric motor, which together deliver 544 hp and 750 Nm of system output. Not quite the output of the technology-dispensing Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid, but an impressive 97 hp and 50 Nm more powerful than the drive of the Bentayga Hybrid.
Total range of up to 700 kilometers
The 100 kW electric motor operates between the combustion engine and transmission and is fed by a 14.1 kWh battery. According to the British, this should enable a total range of 700 kilometers. Purely electric, a range of more than 40 kilometers is expected.
In line with the new setup, the hybrid Flying Spur has EV Drive, Hybrid and Hold driving modes. Provided the battery has enough juice, the vehicle automatically starts in EV Drive. Hybrid mode combines the two drives for maximum range, while Hold saves battery capacity for later.
Seven standard exterior colors to choose from
Visually, the transformation into a hybrid does not involve much. The Flying Spur offers a choice of seven standard exterior colors and up to 60 additional paint options if you are willing to dig a little deeper into your pocket.
The same applies to the optional Mulliner and Blackline packages. The car is equipped with 20-inch wheels as standard, but 21- and 22-inch wheels are available for an additional charge.
Hybrid graphics in 12.3-inch infotainment screen
The interior also looks largely like any other Flying Spur. The only changes are the hybrid-specific graphics in the 12.3-inch infotainment screen and the digital instrument display.
The electrified Flying Spur will be available to order from the end of July, with deliveries scheduled to start at the end of 2021. Bentley has not yet commented on prices.
