Audi: Ten cylinders set the mood 🎥
EMOTIONS WITH SOUND With a naturally aspirated V10 engine and rear-wheel drive, the Audi R8 shows what the sports car world would miss without an internal combustion engine. As a Spyder, the road-going racer lets the sun and sound in.
The Audi R8 Spyder V10 Performance RWD is also a decidedly handsome sports car, although in its naturally aspirated V10 and rear-wheel drive configuration it is almost ready for the racetrack.
At the center is its 5.2-liter ten-cylinder engine, which delivers a maximum torque of 550 Nm at 6400 rpm and 570 hp as peak output at 8000 rpm and is installed in front of the rear axle - just a few inches behind the ears of the driver and front passenger.
The sounds it makes after pressing the start button are just as important for driving pleasure as the fulminant acceleration.
In every situation fascinating V10 concert
With its characteristic V10 ignition sequence, the engine provides a varied acoustic background ranging from a throaty growl in the lower rev range to a loud trumpet when torque and power reach their peak values.
When the throttle is suddenly released and gears are changed under full load, interesting sound variations are added - also influenced by flaps in the exhaust system. Weighing 1695 kilograms, the open two-seater reaches 100 km/h after 3.8 seconds, and the top speed is 327 km/h.
When driving you can open the roof
Whether the roof remains closed or not is a matter of taste. The side windows and wind deflector ensure a storm-free cabin even at higher speeds. Fully automatic opening and closing takes 20 seconds each and is possible at speeds up to 50 mph.
The choice of transmission mode also depends on the route. While the automatic does everything right when cruising in normal or sport mode, manual shifting on the paddles on the steering wheel makes a significant contribution to total driving pleasure on winding sections.
Driving dynamics upgraded
However, it is always important to keep a close eye on the speedometer. With so much power reserve, the limits are reached and exceeded extremely quickly. And of course, the rear-wheel drive requires more caution when accelerating out of corners, because the rear axle tends to wipe out quickly, especially on damp or wet roads. The electronic helpers are quickly on the spot.
The price for the Spyder of the Four Rings is 185,610 Swiss francs.
