The front has been beefed up with a wider and flatter radiator grille and large air intakes, while the rear has been sharpened with a diffuser that is pulled further up and huge exhaust tailpipes. This is how the new Audi R8 will be speeding along our roads from next spring.
Its 5.2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine delivers 560 Nm and 570 hp in the basic version - 30 hp more than before - and accelerates the car weighing just under 1600 kilograms from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. This maneuver takes just 3.1 seconds with the performance version, whose engine delivers 580 Nm and 620 hp. Audi states a top speed of 331 km/h. Consumption and emissions of the V10 unit are kept within limits with dual injection, a cylinder deactivation system and a gasoline particulate filter.
Race track or boulevard as required
A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission distributes the engine power fully variably to all four wheels. A dynamic steering system with even more precise response and a significantly lighter carbon front axle stabilizer are available as options. Although the mid-engine sports car, which is only 4.43 meters long, shares many components with the LMS GT racing versions, it can also be driven comfortably on public roads. And the fact that it dispenses with a martial visual appearance despite track-ready performance makes it even more attractive for sports car enthusiasts. Prices have not yet been fixed.
