Alpine: Nippy Stromer from the Dream Garage 🎥
SUPER-FUTURISTIC With the A290_β show car, French sports car manufacturer Alpine offers a first glimpse into the electric age. The model is the first of three all-electric new releases in the "Dream Garage".
The compact, all-electric concept car is designed to evoke the brand's motorsport heritage. It opens up a new world with its design, materials and technology and will delight sporty drivers both on public roads and on the race track. With its electric drive, it is also a commitment by the brand to more sustainable motorsport.
Genes from an LMP2 bolide
First impression: The front, side skirts and rear apron made of forged carbon are certainly not carried over into series production. The interior is equipped with a roll cage for pure racing feeling. The dashboard is minimalistically trimmed for motorsport. Airplane-like switches are located near the windshield in the headliner. A light signature running centrally across the entire roof gives the A290_β even more sporty genes analogous to an LMP2 bolide. The vertical brake light slots at the rear are striking. This creates excitement and a desire for more.
Launch planned for 2024
In the A290_β model designation, A stands for Alpine, the 2 for the B segment and the 90 for Lifestyle at Alpine. The Greek letter β denotes the development phase up to the production model, whose official launch is planned for 2024. On the outside, the production version will look quite similar, Alpine informs. The 3-seat concept, on the other hand, is completely new.
The central driver's seat in the middle gives a completely new driving experience for the person at the wheel, but also for the two rear passengers, who thus have a clear view of the apron. Two powerful electric motors as well as the carbon racing seat and the Sabelt harness, together with the cockpit design with telemetry steering wheel, create a real racing atmosphere. When the red OV button (meaning overtake) is pressed, the electric drive provides extra boost for ten seconds.
Two new models to follow soon
The A290_β compact sports car will soon be joined by two other electric innovations from Alpine as part of the "Dream Garage": the GT crossover model and the all-electric successor to the A110 two-seater. Production of the A290_β model based on the Alliance CMF-B EV platform will start next year at the Electricity plant in Douai in northern France.
The dynamic, muscular body design with its sharp lines unmistakably indicates great sportiness. This is supported by the short length of just 4.05 meters, the short wheelbase and the comparatively wide track widths. Large air intakes in the front apron, additional air intakes under the headlights and extremely narrow rear-view mirror housings testify to aerodynamic tuning down to the last detail.
Specially developed Michelin tires
The A290_β emphasizes brand affinity with the headlights, which are reminiscent of the current A110, and with the vertical taillights, which are similarly installed in the A470 race car. Also characteristic are the strikingly shaped 19-inch alloy wheels, on which specially developed tires from Michelin are mounted. The development team of the A290_β has already spent many hours on the race track with trial and optimization tests. For example, wheel suspensions and braking and cooling systems have been made fit for high-performance driving.
