Two Aargauers look forward to the F3000 debut
BERGRENNEN REITNAU On Sunday, Thomas Amweg makes his debut with a Lola F3000 (picture). His colleague from the canton of Aargau, Robin Faustini, is also looking forward to his first Swiss appearance in Formula 3000. The organizers of the ACS Mitte are rubbing their hands and rightly announce it on their Facebook page. Never before have so many powerful racing cars from Switzerland been registered as for the 52nd ACS hill climb Reitnau next Sunday, July 2.
The six race cars will be joined by Marcel Steiner with his LobArt sports car, which also has a three-liter V8 engine producing around 480 hp. The Bernese comes to Reitnau as the first SM leader of the season after his victory in Hemberg.
Defending champion Eric Berguerand, the day's winner for the last few years, is looking for revenge in his Lola-Ford. This duel will provide enormous excitement.
However, the eyes of many spectators at the start and along the 1.6 km sprint course will be especially focused on two Aargauers.
Thomas Amweg picks up where his father Fredy, who won 19 times in Reitnau, left off in 1998 - at the wheel of a Lola-Mader Cosworth from the former Formula 3000, which is being made available to him by a generous sponsor. "It's a dream come true for me," says Amweg.
Preparation during test drives on the circuit
After weeks of preparation, the driver from Ammerswil completed his first test drive on Tuesday at the Anneau du Rhin. After a few laps, dropouts due to a loose contact in the engine environment slowed him down. But this was enough to get him excited.
"A sensational feeling. The car is more aggressive on the gas and wider than my previous Formula 3 Dallara. But the Lola is no more difficult to drive. I now know that I will certainly be able to cope with it," says Amweg, looking forward to his F3000 debut on Sunday.
Robin Faustini experienced his racing debut with a Reynard 92D already on May 7 at the Eschdorf hill climb in Luxembourg. But the only 19-year-old from Suhr, son of Simon Hugentobler, who also competes with a Reynard, now feels much better prepared for his second race, his first in his home country.
Robin also tested on the Rhein-Ring in Alsace on Tuesday and got plenty of driving in. "I now have a much better feel for the car and was able to go to the limit for the first time. It's going worlds better now than in Eschdorf," the junior rejoices.
Like the Amwegs (dad Fredy is helping out a lot), he and his father still have to solve technical problems before the weekend. During a test start shortly before the end of the test, a transmission failure occurred. Faustini promises: "We're now doing everything we can to find the spare parts and be at the start on Sunday."
The anticipation of the spectators in Reitnau may grow in the next few days and be at least as big as that of the two F3000 newcomers...
