Zwahlen: Porsche GT3 instead of Opel Kadett
RETURN TO THE MOUNTAIN Six years after his serious accident, Christoph Zwahlen returns to the mountain. Not in his usual Opel Kadett, but in a Porsche. Christoph Zwahlen had to end his slalom season after the May race in Bure. The 2.4-liter 16V engine in the poison-green Opel Kadett C, which had been freshly overhauled in the winter, was already causing problems again and now needed another overhaul. Because the crowd favorite does not want to end his racing season prematurely because of this, he now decided on Plan B.
First Gargellen, then Oberhallau
From now on, the jovial Thurgau native will be competing in a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup. The car, always prepared by Zwahlen, belonged to Danny Krieg. Now he drives it himself ("it's like new"), and continues to do so in the Interswiss group. Because of his clientele, this had long been appropriate.
Zwahlen will make his Porsche debut on August 17/18 at the Gargellen hillclimb in Vorarlberg. If all goes well there, he will bring the GT3 sports car to the start line a week later at the Oberhallau hill climb and two weeks after that at Gurnigel.
What will his feeling be?
Exactly six years after his serious accident with the Kadett in Massongex, the two-time slalom champion is once again competing in Swiss hill climbs.
Christoph Zwahlen: "I have no idea how I'll feel when I'm back at the start of a hill climb for the first time. But it's purely about driving for me."
He doesn't have high hopes of being one of the top players right away.
Christoph Zwahlen: "I first have to get used to this car. The traction of the Porsche is very different from that of the Kadett. So far, I've only done a few laps at the Weinfelden Road Safety Center."
Last slaloms in the Porsche
If the Porsche is fun to drive, Zwahlen also wants to compete in the last two slaloms in Drognens and Ambri with the Porsche.
