It was not really expected otherwise, but only certain with the signature. On Saturday, Julien Apothéloz signed a contract with Topcar Sport. The 17-year-old from Zurich will compete in the 2019 ADAC TCR Germany with a Cupra TCR from the Bern-based team.
The overall winner of the 2018 "AutoScout24 Young Driver Challenge powered by Seat" will even receive a brand-new car with sequential transmission. After Joshua Reynolds' total loss at the TCR finale in Hockenheim, a new chassis was needed. For next year's Young Driver Challenge, the Cupra TCR with DSG will continue to be used.
Sensational situation
Ronny Jost, who runs the Topcar Sport company in Uetendorf and the racing team together with his father Ruedi, is delighted about the extended partnership.
Ronny Jost: "Of course we had hoped that Julien would drive with us. This is a sensational situation for us. He has the potential to drive right up front, and not just in the rookie classification. We will do everything for him."
Routine in Dubai
In order to best prepare for the task ahead, Apothéloz will be competing in the Dubai 24 Hours (January 11-12, 2019) in just three weeks' time. Together with Ronny Jost and other partners, the junior will be driving a Cupra TCR from Bas Koeten Racing. Jost won the TCR class with the Dutch team at the 24 Hours of the Circuit of the Americas in Texas in November.
Ronny Jost: "Julien gets more routine with a TCR car and it welds us together even more as a team. We're excited to see what we'll achieve together in 2019."
