Kawasaki factory rider Randy Krummenacher already topped the time table on Monday with a time of 1:33.678 minutes. Krummenacher thus even left world champion Kenan Sofuoglu behind him. "The fact that I was able to leave Kenan behind me overall is good," said Krummenacher in an interview with speedweek.com.
Nevertheless, the 26-year-old warns against jumping to conclusions, saying that what the test times really mean will only become clear at the upcoming race weekend. "We've tried a bunch, now we have to see what's usable and what's not," Krummenacher explained.
The Zurich native knows his weaknesses. He also used the test to learn from the experienced world champion Sofuoglu: "I look at Kenan's data, he's strong in the slow corners, I'm working on that."
In addition, "changing conditions" are still among Krummenacher's weaknesses. "It was very hot and I didn't have such a good feeling, I still have to learn a bit there, I have to adapt faster. When it was really hot, I could not understand the tires so," said Krummenacher.
Nevertheless, the rider who switched from the Moto2 World Championship feels well prepared. His goal at Phillip Island is to finish among the top five. "My team boss asked me when I last stood on the podium. That was in 2008 in the Spanish championship, when I won," said Krummenacher, for whom a podium finish is thus clearly too long ago.
