Hockenheim is this weekend's seventh and penultimate round of the 2021 DTM season for GT3 drivers.
Two years ago, Nico Müller finished the 2019 DTM season in front of many fans from Switzerland at Hockenheim with a victory and securing the runner-up championship. The Audi factory driver achieved the same near-masterpiece last year in full view of the public.
Aiming not for the title but for a race win
This weekend, the signs are more or less reversed. Finally, spectators are allowed again, in compliance with 3G rules. However, especially those from Switzerland will no longer be able to root for their most popular compatriot in the fight for the championship title, but at most for the success of a successful weekend.
Unfortunately, the championship train has sailed for him. This is also the view of the person concerned after his so far mixed GT3 season with the Audi R8 LMS from Team Rosberg.
Nico Müller: "I started the season with a new car and team, which took some getting used to. Monza was good (2nd place, Red.), then came slightly harder times, then we fought our way back and are getting closer to the top again. I want to finish the season on a high and aim for a race win. Hockenheim and the Norisring a week later should suit the Audi."
Good racing promised
The Bernese has a special relationship with the Baden GP circuit.
Nico Müller: "Yes, Hockenheim is a home race, for my team and for me. What I'm most looking forward to is that all the doors are open again for the fans. Many of my friends will also be coming. And I'm sure we'll see some good racing."
A quartet with the best chances
Mathematically, seven drivers still have a chance of winning the title, but the best prospects are for four drivers from four different manufacturers who have made their mark on the season so far. Liam Lawson (Ferrari), Marco Wittmann (BMW), Kelvin van der Linde (Audi) and Maximilian Götz (Mercedes-AMG).
These four go into the final four rounds separated by just 20 points, with a total of 112 points still to be awarded. The second Swiss, Philip Ellis, is a distant fifth. Holding this position would be a huge success for the man from Zug in his first season as a DTM and Mercedes contract driver.

Ricardo Feller defends GT championship lead
The title fight in the German GT Championship enters the third last round at the Sachsenring. After their second victory of the season most recently at the Lausitzring, Ricardo Feller from Aargau and Germany's Christopher Mies in the Audi R8 LMS from Land Motorsport lead the standings.
Their cards are good: Mies has already triumphed there four times, and an R8 has already been good for 13 race wins there, which equates to an impressive 46 percent. Their first pursuers Raffaele Marciello (a Ticino driver flying the Italian flag) and Maximilian Buhk on Mercedes are only three points behind.
Fans can also watch the racing action live at the Sachsenring. The two races, each lasting one hour with driver changes, will be broadcast live on NITRO on free TV from 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The live streams are available free of charge and without registration at TVNOW.com as well as on YouTube and adac.de/motorsport to see.
