The teaser shot two months ago on the occasion of the test drives in cold Hockenheim shows a few old and new faces.
After the almost four-decade-long era of touring cars, the present and future of the DTM belongs to sports cars based on the FIA GT3 regulations. As a unique selling point, it remains reserved for professional racing drivers.
With their GT3 cars, they contest two sprint races per weekend over 50 to 55 minutes plus one lap. As in the past, there are no driver changes in the DTM, but as in Formula 1, there is a mandatory pit stop to change the tires.
Two Swiss, two women and six brands
With Nico Müller (Audi R8 LMS/Team Rosberg) and Philip Ellis (Mercedes-AMG/Winward Racing), there are two Swiss drivers in the top-class field. The names reflect a select mix of drivers with GP experience, former DTM champions, crafty GT3 aces and up-and-coming young stars.
The two-time TV runner-up from Switzerland deliberately avoids making any predictions.
Nico Müller: "I feel well prepared and am highly motivated. However, the Balance of Performance, which is supposed to bring the different cars to a comparable level, means that not everything is in our hands. But I have confidence in ITR and AVL, who have worked out the BoP for the DTM and can always adapt it. As a team, we have to get the maximum out of our package every weekend, score as many points as possible right at the start and, ideally, also win, and then hopefully be in the race for the championship title right to the end. After all, after finishing second last year, that can only be the goal for me personally."
Six brands (Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Mercedes) will be contested by twelve racing teams.
With German Sophie Flörsch in an Audi R8 LMS from ABT and Briton Esmee Hawkey in a Lamborghini from T3 Motorsport, there are also two women in the field. Flörsch also races in the WEC in the LMP2 class, Hawkey contested the W Series in 2019 and was Pro-Am champion in the British Carrera Cup in 2020.
Live on Sat1 and on the Internet
The event kicks off at Monza on June 19/20, with the finale at Hockenheim on October 2-3 - hopefully with many spectators allowed in the grandstands.
All races will be broadcast on free TV on Sat1, from Monza on Saturday and Sunday from 1.30 p.m. each day. The DTM Trophy for GT4 drivers, also starting in Italy, including Lucas Mauron from St. Gallen in an Audi R8 and Yann immer from Neuchâtel in a BMW M4, can be seen live on Sport1.
Via streaming services such as the online platform DTM Grid the DTM and the DTM Trophy can also be followed worldwide on any smartphone.
350th race of the German Porsche Cup
In addition, the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany with Swiss participation will start at Monza for rounds 7 and 8 of the season, celebrating the 350th race since 1990.
The start is at 4:15 p.m. local time on both Saturday and Sunday. Both heats will be live-streamed on the Facebook account @CarreraCupGermany, the official YouTube channel of the Brand Cup and the Porsche Motorsport Hub shown. In addition, Sport1 will broadcast the anniversary race live on free TV.
Formula 1 back in France
In 2020, the French GP fell victim to the Corona pandemic. On Sunday, Formula 1 will hold its seventh round of the season at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet.
Swiss television will report live from qualifying on Saturday from 2.55 to 4.10 p.m. on SRF info. On Sunday, the race can be seen on SRF zwei from 2.50 pm.
Emil Frey Racing and Grégoire Saucy in the hunt for points at Zandvoort
The fourth race weekend in 2021 took the teams involved in the GT World Challenge Europe to Zandvoort. Two one-hour sprint races will be held on the Dutch dune circuit, thus forming the second round of the sprint series and the fourth of the overall championship.
After Emil Frey Racing failed to achieve a brilliant result at Le Castellet, the Safenwil-based company hopes to build on last year's sensational sprint victory at Zandvoort. After all, they now have three hot irons in the fire, of which the Swiss duo Ricardo Feller/Alex Fontana has been convincing everywhere so far.
In the 1000-kilometer race in France, with Rolf Ineichen as the third man, they captured another podium in 13th place and second in the Silver Cup. Fontana thus remains in first place in the Silver standings, likewise his team, which occupies the third intermediate place in the overall standings.
The highlights of the Paul Ricard 1000 kilometers in two and a half minutes. Emil Frey Racing, which had two teams in the top ten for a long time, did not play a major role in the end this time.
The races from Zandvoort are on the YouTube channel of the race series live, as well as in the livestream on the homepage. Racing starts on Saturday at 13.30 and on Sunday at 14.30.
The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine holds two more races in the GT3 series. After eight rounds, Grégoire Saucy from the Jura, who recently won at Le Castellet for the fourth time, is clearly leading the standings. All practice sessions and both races can be seen on YouTube or on the Facebook channel of "Formel Alpine" under this Link.
Formula E back in North America
After more than a year of concentrating on Europe and Saudi Arabia, Formula E is returning to the North American continent for Rounds 5 and 6 of the season. The races will be held at the Circuit Miguel Abed in Puebla, Mexico, which was previously only used by the WTCC as the FIA championship.
With Sébastien Buemi, who continues to chase his first win with Nissan, and Edoardo Mortara on Venturi-Mercedes, only two of the three Swiss are on the grid in Mexico. Nico Müller is prioritizing the DTM at Monza and will be replaced at Dragon-Penske by Swede Joël Eriksson.
Both races will be broadcast live on Sat1 on Saturday and Sunday late in the evening from 10.30 p.m., as well as by MySportsCH. An Internet live stream is available at ran.de/motorsport.
