As the highlights from free practice show, several drivers have already made contact with the crash barriers.

Two years after their last appearance, the veterans and the GP rookies got to grips with the 3337-meter street circuit in free practice on Thursday.

Redemption for Ferrari fans?
Even if the first day normally doesn't mean much, the best time set by local hero Charles Leclerc and second place by Carlos Sainz gives all Ferrari fans hope that the Reds can once again fight for victory with defending champion Mercedes and challenger Red Bull Racing after a long dry spell.

Championship leader Grégoire Saucy, who won three of the first four races of the season, had to settle for sixth place in his qualifying group on the fifth row of the grid - his winning streak is therefore likely to come to an end. After an accident in free practice through no fault of his own, the Jurassian did not start qualifying with the optimum setup.

The other three Swiss riders Jasin Ferati (25th), Axel Gnos (26th after an accident) and Léna Bühler (27th) will have to make do with starting positions in the back two rows.

With 4th place on the grid, specialist Christopher Zöchling created a good starting position for Sunday's race.

Fach Auto Tech can hope for a podium in the Porsche Supercup
The drivers from the Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup will hold their first race with the 992 GT3 generation racing model, which has already been used for the first time in the German Carrera Cup. Christopher Zöchling, spearheading Fach Auto Tech, hopes to build on his two third places from the German opener at the WEC in Spa.

With the fourth-best time in Friday morning's qualifying session, the Austrian has definitely put himself in a very good starting position. The two newcomers Marius Nakken and Maxime Boulin are 12th and 25th on the grid.

24H Series at Hockenheim
The participants in the 24H Series will be competing in Hockenheim for the fourth race of the season. Instead of 16 hours, as in September 2020, it will "only" last twelve, but there will be more than twice as many teams on the grid as at the German premiere last year.

These include some from Switzerland, such as the Start list who also have a chance of finishing on the podium in the overall classification and in the classes.

Swiss TCR duel like in Dubai

World Rally Championship in Portugal
