Fabienne Wohlwend knew the Norisring in Nuremberg, which is only 2,300 meters long, like her Polish rival Gosia Rdest from the 2017 Audi TT Cup. The fastest female racer from the German state promptly finished the first free practice session in first place and the second in third. That gave her plenty of confidence for Saturday's qualifying and race.

Hit in the first turn
Due to a yellow flag in turn 1, she was unable to improve her lap times further in qualifying. However, 3rd place on the grid was an ideal starting position to have a say in the podium. Unfortunately, nothing came of it, as she reported to AutoSprintCH.

Fabienne Wohlwend: "I practiced the start diligently and got it perfectly. Then in the first turn 1 I got a knock, fortunately without damage to the car, and lost a position. Unfortunately, the lap times are so close together that an overtaking maneuver would only have been possible at high risk. Towards the end of the race I got some pressure from Emma Kimilainen, but I was able to withstand it."

Liechtenstein's poster child in motor racing: Fabienne Wohlwend wants to use the last races to secure a top-3 finish in the championship.

Her conclusion is therefore positive, even if it didn't work out with another podium (after 3rd place in Misano).

Fabienne Wohlwend: "My start was great and my race pace was again very good, so I was able to put pressure on the leaders over the entire race distance. In fourth place, I collected important points for the championship and thus moved up to fourth intermediate place."

In the run-up to the race in Nuremberg, W Series published a short film about Fabienne Wohlwend and her environment:

Victory to Spain
The fourth championship round was decided by 18-year-old Marta Garcia with a 3.619-second lead over Beitske Visser (NL). The Spaniard was also ahead for the first time in qualifying and turned pole position into her first victory including the fastest race lap. With the 25 points she improved to third intermediate place in the standings behind Jamie Chadwick from England (83 points) and Visser (73).

Chadwick was caught off guard at the start by the Dutchwoman, who started in fifth place, put her under pressure during the race but could not find a way past her. The Liechtensteiner finished 2.135 seconds behind her. Wohlwend still has a theoretical chance of winning the title with 60 points, but second or third place is more realistic because Garcia, Chadwick and Visser have shown hardly any weaknesses so far.

An additional race in Assen
The next round of the W Series will take place on July 20, again as part of the DTM in Assen. The following day there will be an additional race without points being awarded for the championship. This will be decided on August 10/11 at the finale at Brands Hatch (GB).
