W Series: Fabienne can be satisfied 🎥

SIXTH OF THE WOMEN'S RACE SERIES The sixth race at Brands Hatch marked the end of the first season of the W Series. Although only on the podium once, Fabienne Wohlwend draws a positive conclusion. Thanks to the good care she received at the scene of the accident and in the days that followed, Fabienne Wohlwend was able to concentrate on the W Series again.

Like all five races before, the finale of the first all-female race car championship was held as part of the DTM. The fact that Fabienne Wohlwend was the only German-speaking representative able to take part at all at Brands Hatch was not a matter of course. On the previous Saturday, she suffered the worst accident of her career to date in an out-of-control BMW during the VLN race at the Nürburgring. Fortunately, she only suffered bruises in the multiple rollovers on the Nordschleife.

5th place for Wohlwend, title to Chadwick
Back in the Tatuus Formula 3 W Series race car, the Liechtenstein native took sixth place on the grid in a qualifying session that was as competitive as anywhere else. At the start, which is never easy because of the gradient at Brands Hatch ("I had to brake with my right heel to keep the car still"), Wohlwend immediately made up a position. After that, she easily pulled away from the chasers with the leading group.

As in all races, Fabienne Wohlwend, who was once again in pink at Brands Hatch, was part of the leading group. She even made it onto the podium once in 2019.

Shortly before the end of the race, there was a brief safety car phase that brought the whole field back together. Her pace was good again after that, but she would have needed one or two more laps to risk an overtaking maneuver.

The race was won by Alice Powell from Great Britain ahead of Emma Kimilainen from Finland and Beitske Visser from the Netherlands. Fourth place was enough for Jamie Chadwick from England, who otherwise always finishes on the podium, to secure the title ahead of Visser.

In her honor, the W Series organization presented a short video about the first female champion:

Fantastic experience
With fifth place in the last race and sixth in the championship, the fastest woman from the Ländle is quite satisfied. Like everyone in the top 12, she is automatically qualified for the next season.

Fabienne Wohlwend: "Returning to the formula car after two years in GT racing was a difficult but fantastic change. In the championship, I only lost fifth place overall to the experienced Emma Kimilainen by two points. I'm more than happy with my performance and development."

Outstanding were her pole position and podium (3rd) in Misano, second place in the rain qualifying at Hockenheim, the best time in practice at the Norisring, followed by 3rd on the grid and 4th in the race.

Fabienne Wohlwend: "The last eight months have been the most intense and beautiful months. I can't wait to be back next year."

Back to the Ferrari
After a two-week vacation following the final in England, her focus is now back on the Ferrari Challenge. The next races at her favorite track in Imola are scheduled for the end of September, before she defends her title as Ferrari Women's World Champion at the grand world final in Mugello in October.

The 20 ladies and their helpers from the W Series lined up at Brands Hatch for their season finale. They offered at least as good sport as the men in their championships.
