After Jasin Ferati, Mike Müller is now also making the move from karting to motorsport. The 17-year-old Bernese driver from Schwanden near Sigriswil will compete in the Touring Car Junior Cup in Germany in a new VW up! GTI in 2020. As reported online by AutoSprintCH on November 30, this new junior one-make cup is organized by the ADAC Regionalclub Weser-Ems.

Berne Alliance
The Cup car, which has been modified for racing, will be made available to Müller on favorable terms by F + R Tourenwagen Motorsport GmbH from Hindelbank, which is appearing as a team for the first time. The majority shareholder is Robert Danz, whose son Fabian won the 24H Series Europe in 2019.

As president of the Bern Kart Racing Club for many years, Danz Sr. now wants to do something new for young racing talent from his own ranks.

Robert Danz: "I've been watching for 30 years and I know how it works. I think Mike is a great talent and I believe in him. I am convinced that he can do it."

Seize the opportunity
In the 2019 autobau Swiss Kart Championship, his protégé won the title in the premier class KZ2, his third in three different categories. That is now over.

Mike Müller: "I have now achieved everything I can achieve in Switzerland. That's why I want to seize this opportunity now. This new Junior Cup is affordable."

Mike Müller and Robert Danz are looking forward to working together.

Once the deposit and registration fee have been paid, the team expects to receive the car in the spring. As the new racing series does not celebrate its premiere until June, Müller will still be competing in one or two kart races in Germany.

Four starting places still available
The Touring Car Junior Cup is held at eight events in sprint racing format (two races, two qualifying sessions and one free practice session per event) on six race tracks in Germany and neighboring Europe.

Registration is still possible at reduced rates until February 15. Four of the 16 only slightly modified vehicles are currently still available.

The two best-known teams that have confirmed their participation so far are Scheider Motorsport (former DTM champion) and Lubner Motorsport (VLN).

Other Swiss teams uncertain
Autorama Motorsport is still in talks with interested drivers. The Zurich-based company, which is successful in the 24H Series, only wants to get involved if everything is right for them.

Helmi Motorsport from Otelfingen, who also expressed their interest when the new one-make cup was announced, have decided not to participate after calculating the expected costs.

A total of 16 identical VW up! GTI Cup cars will be competing in the inaugural year. Only one Swiss driver has been confirmed so far.
