Volkswagen ID.R: Record at Bilster Berg 🎥

The record lap from the pilot's point of view. It actually looks rather unspectacular from the inside.
A performance-oriented test day with the Volkswagen ID.R at Bilster Berg served as preparation for the "Goodwood SpeedWeek" (October 16-18). Dieter Depping lapped the 4.2-kilometer track in 1:24.206 minutes.
The VW Motorsport test and development driver thus improved the previous best mark from 2016 by Sven Barth in a Step-1 MiKar C301B prototype by more than nine seconds.
Small north loop
For the three-time German Rally Champion - now 54 years old - this is also a personal success.
Dieter Depping: "The Bilster Berg is a very special race track. It's almost like the Nordschleife in miniature - very varied and with lots of curves that are difficult to see. Everything has to fit if you want to be fast - car, set-up and racing line. That's why I'm particularly pleased with the record."

Important employee in the background
Depping has been working for Volkswagen Motorsport for 18 years. During this time, he has tested a wide variety of racing and rally vehicles - be they gasoline, diesel, natural gas or electric-powered.
Without him, successes such as the four manufacturers' titles with the VW Polo WRC in the World Rally Championship, two drivers' titles in the World Rallycross Championship (WRX), the three Dakar Rally victories with the Race Touareg or numerous class wins in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring would be unthinkable.

On the fringes of the test day in East Westphalia-Lippe, the focus was on another Volkswagen vehicle: the ID.3. For the first time, the two members of the ID. family covered a few kilometers together.
Volkswagen Motorsport launched the ID.R in 2018 as the technological pioneer and sporty spearhead of this completely new generation of pure electric vehicles. Since then, it has been demonstrating the enormous potential of electric drive worldwide.
Volkswagen's first purely electric production model, the ID.3, has been available to order from dealers since July 20. Deliveries of the ID.3, which is limited to 30,000 units, began in September.
