The race began with a mass collision among GT3 cars in the first starting group and was then interrupted for around an hour for clearing and recovery work.

In beautiful autumn weather, 153 teams took on the eighth round of the Nürburgring Endurance Championship (VLN) - effectively the seventh race of 2019 following the cancellation of VLN2. The race day went particularly well for some Swiss drivers, especially Frédéric Yerly and Roland Schmid. Together with German Matthias Wasel, they won the TCR class, which consisted of just three touring cars in the penultimate race.

Accident involving Jasmin Preisig's fast VW team
However, with the Max Kruse Racing VW team supported by works driver Benny Leuchter, the trio already had a faster opponent in practice and in the early stages. Unfortunately, Leuchter's lead was of no use: while lapping a slower car, the VW Golf GTI TCR made contact with the guardrail at high speed. As a result, the race was also over prematurely for his teammate Jasmin Preisig, who was not able to take part in the race.

Everything done right
Yerly, Schmid and Wasel took the lead with the flawlessly running and faultlessly piloted Cupra TCR and finished 27th and first in their class. After five victories in seven races so far, Wasel and Yerly have an unassailable lead in the VLN class winner's trophy for TCR cars.

Behind him is Roland Schmid, who only joined the driver duo during the course of the season. This is the third TCR title win in a row for the Cologne-based racing team mathilda racing and the first in the VLN for Yerly.

GT4 victories for Manuel Amweg and Hofor Racing
His brother-in-law was also able to celebrate a success. Together with Germans Danny Brink and Florian Wolf, Manuel Amweg won the seven-car SP8T class for the first time this season in the BMW M4 GT4 from Leutheuser Racing.

Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport brought its two BMW M4s home in first and third place in the eight-team GT4 homologation class in their first joint VLN outing of 2019. The Swiss-German team had previously won the team classification in the ADAC GT4 Germany.

The BMW M4 GT4 from Hofor Racing entered by Bonk Motorsport is now also showing its strength in the VLN.

Rogivue wins on Ferrari
After a season of frustration in the ADAC GT Masters, Nikolaj Rogivue enjoyed a sense of achievement in his second VLN outing with the Ferrari 458 from B racing one. After retiring from the fifth race, the man from Zurich with Swedish roots and two German partners took his first victory over three other competitors in the SP8 class.

The fast Ferrari 488 entered in the SPX class by Octane126 with Hirschi/Grossmann retired after three hours.

Overall winner Raffaele Marciello and Maximilian Buhk. Born in Zurich, the Ticino native has driven for Italy all his life.

Three "Swiss" Mercedes GT3 drivers ahead
The race, which lasted four hours or 28 laps, ended with a triple overall victory for Mercedes customer teams with a Swiss line-up, led by Maximilian Buhk and Raffaele Marciello, a Ticino driver competing for Italy. Following the subsequent disqualification of a BMW M6 GT3 (non-compliance with the homologation data sheet), Philip Ellis and Maximilian Götz inherited second place.

In a thrilling final phase, Ellis successfully beat six-time VLN winner Manuel Metzger by just 0.412 seconds at the finish line. Although they are not Swiss citizens, they have lived and worked here for a long time and compete with an ASS license.
