Suzuki Racing Cup: End of a dry spell
SIEG FÜR EGGENBERGER At the sixth round of the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup in Chamblon, Fabian Eggenberger finally came to success. Only four thousandths of a second decided in his favor. In both practice runs, the first of which took place on a damp track, Christian Zimmermann led the 36-strong Suzuki field for the first time at the Chamblon armory. Although he did not quite reach his fabulous time, the man from Glarus still led by three tenths over championship leader Marcel Muzzarelli after the first race run.
It does not get any tighter than this
In the second run, Fabian Eggenberger set a new best time, which Zimmermann seemed to have beaten by three tenths two cars after him. Unfortunately, he had touched a pylon, which is why ten penalty seconds were added. A few minutes later, Muzzarelli then missed Eggenberger's submission by only four thousandths - and this with a track length of 4300 meters and a driving time of more than three and a half minutes.
End of the lean period
For Eggenberger, this meant the first victory in the official one-make cup with the new Suzuki Swift Sport, after the Zurich native had won seven of the eight rounds of the internal Suzuki Grand Prix with the 1600cc naturally aspirated engine in the L2-1600 class last year. Since Simeon Schneider, the first-time winner, did not go beyond sixth place in Romont a week ago, Muzzarelli increased his lead in the standings.
First podium despite Zimmermann's mistake
The first running time was still enough for Zimmermann to take his first podium of the current season. The ungrateful fourth place this time went to Sandro Fehr, while Martin Bürki brought the Suzuki from the Flammer Speed Team to the finish line in the fifth-best time, as in Romont. He thus missed the targeted podium position by a good one and a half seconds.
