Suzuki riders dominate their class
In the second round of the 2016 Suzuki Grand Prix at the Frauenfeld Allmend, Fabian Eggenberger was unbeatable in changeable weather conditions. The Zurich rider was more than three seconds faster than all his class opponents on the 3.2 km wet track in the first round. Eggenberger gained another 1.6 seconds in the second round. What speed Eggenberger [...]
Eggenberger's speed on April 23 was demonstrated by his ranking in the daily classification of all LOC-licensed drivers: seventh overall behind and ahead of all the more powerful cars! Heiko Leiber also confirmed his performance in the first race with a very good time and remained second best, 2.5 seconds behind the winner. Bruno Bleiker followed in third place with a gap of 5.5 seconds. After a gate error in the first run, which earned him ten penalty seconds, Sandro Fehr improved from eighth to fourth place with a flawless second run. Only then did the first non-Suzuki driver follow in the L2 class up to 1600 cc. Behind them, the Basel trio of Andreas Saner, Gilbert Denzer and Rolf Plattner took the next places. Bettina Buess in tenth place behind Andreas Grubert at least managed to leave three other Suzuki riders behind her.
The weather was also rather changeable on Sunday at the Swiss Slalom Championship races. The Flammer Speed Team took a risk with the tire poker and fitted Patrick Flammer's Suzuki Swift Evo 2000 with treadless rubber after a brief rain shower. The gamble initially paid off, as the track dried out completely by the start of the E1 two-liter class, whereupon Flammer set the third-best time. Flammer's rain dances were of no use, it remained dry in the second race, which three class opponents completed even faster. Despite his improved time, the Glarus native slipped to 6th place, which is still a very good result with 24 competitors.
