It was only a matter of time. At the fifth round of the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup in Romont, Simeon Schneider managed his first victory after several podium finishes. In light rain, Fabian Eggenberger was still in front after practice, who had also never won this season. Marcel Muzzarelli, leader of the standings and winner of the past three races, was just under half a second behind, Schneider as fastest after the first test run followed with eight hundredths in third place.
Relief for the winner
In the first race run on almost dry track, Simeon Schneider set the fastest time on the 2910-meter track, which Muzzarelli then beat by almost 1.3 seconds in the second run. Schneider then drove another four tenths faster than the championship leader. Happy and relieved that it had finally worked out, he was congratulated afterwards on his greatest success to date.
Martin Bürki proves his skills
After the first run, Fabian Eggenberger was still in third place by a razor-thin margin ahead of Martin Bürki. The six-time slalom champion then pulled out all the stops and also made it onto the podium, just three and a half tenths behind Muzzarelli. After he had expected a place in the top five at the first start for the Flammer Speed Team with the pure production car, Bürki hereby exceeded his expectations himself.
Tremp good sixth
The sixth place of OPC runner-up Rolf Tremp was also strong, but the seventh place of Sandro Fehr, who had won the opening race of Interlaken, was a slight disappointment. The analysis of the fifth race of the season with the outlook on the next race on June 22 in Chamblon will be available online on Wednesday.
