The highlights of the Supercup race in Hungary. From 0:45 Jaap van Lagen explains the accident with Jaxon Evans in words and pictures.

Thanks to a brilliant opening phase, Jaap van Lagen had his sights set on his first top-five finish of the season at the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in the Formula 1 support program at the Hungaroring. But a collision through no fault of his own between this year's and last year's spearhead in the Schwyz-based team dashed all hopes of a first top result this year.

Unsuccessful overtaking attempt
After the veteran from Ede, Holland, fought his way past young New Zealander Jaxon Evans, a riveting duel developed between the two. Evans, who became a Porsche junior in 2020, tried to regain his position but could not find a way past van Lagen's specialist Porsche.

What followed was a failed overtaking attempt that ended in a collision and meant the end of the race for Jaap van Lagen with a puncture. Race control identified Evans as the cause of the collision.

After Jaap van Lagen had overtaken Jaxon Evans, the latter did not give in. This had consequences for both of them.

Clear increase
For the team boss and his squad, it was at least a consolation to see an upward trend after the two modest performances in Austria.

Alex Fach: "It was clear that we had improved compared to Spielberg. The pace is there for us to be in the top group. The fact that we were robbed of the chance to turn this into a top result hits us hard."

Rewarded chase of the youngster
Damage limitation was provided by teammate Jordan Love, who claimed his first rookie podium in the Porsche Supercup. The 21-year-old Australian managed an impressive recovery in which he worked his way up from 14th on the grid to eighth place.

Jordan Love: "I'm happy with that. I was able to make up three places on the first lap. That was a good basis for my first top-10 finish and third place in the rookie standings."

Jordan Love is contesting his first racing season in Europe. In Hungary, he achieved his first top-10 result.

A Luxemburger ahead
There was no way around Dylan Pereira from BWT Lechner Racing in Hungary. The Luxembourger dominated qualifying and then took an unchallenged start-finish victory.

Porsche junior Ayhancan Güven from the French Martinet by Alméras team was the only one able to set a similar pace. With second place, the Turk improved to second in the standings, while Pereira extended his championship lead.

After just three weeks, the first third of the Supercup season is over. The season continues from July 31 to August 2 at the Silverstone Circuit in Great Britain.
