Sports: Yves Hängärtner returns
SLALOMS IN A RACE CAR In 2017, race car rookie Yves Hängärtner struck like lightning in slalom racing. After just a few races, he sold the Tatuus Honda and is now returning to the slalom tracks with an identical race car. The Biel native is also bringing the E1 Escort back to the starting line on the mountain. Veni, vidi, vici: In 2017, Yves Hängärtner won at his first [...]
Veni, vidi, vici: In 2017, Yves Hängärtner won the slalom season opener in Interlaken in his first outing with a newly acquired Tatuus-Honda Formula Master. The 42-year-old from Biel then went on to win the fourth SM round in Bure before selling the two-liter race car surprisingly quickly. Except for an interlude with the second Bürki Polo at the final in Ambri, he retired to private life.
In the meantime, Hängärtner has changed his mind. Jenzer Motorsport still had a Tatuus-Honda FM in the basement, which was optimal but no longer needed for racing. Last year's shooting star in the slalom scene took it over.
Yves Hängärtner: "It was more of a coincidence. Driving the Tatuus-Honda was a lot of fun in 2017. Now Andreas Jenzer is happy with me that this car from a previous German owner is being used again."
Hängärtner is planning his first start again in Interlaken, so for reasons of time only at this year's second SM run. Interlaken is the most beautiful slalom for him, and it may be the last time it is held in 2018.
Yves Hängärtner: "I'll see how it works and then decide where else I'll race. A full slalom season is out of the question for me, because I still have too little experience with such race cars, especially in terms of chassis set-up. Maybe I'll try it in 2019 then..."
Return with the modified Ford Escort Cosworth
The president of the Ecurie Biennoise (celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2018) also wants to bring his Ford Escort Cosworth, which he used in the past, back to the starting line, but in isolated hill climbs.
The E1 touring car's transmission problems should be resolved after extensive work. And thanks to an Öhlins suspension system installed and tuned by Schläppi Race-Tec, its handling should also be significantly better.
