Sport: Toyota Switzerland stops
VLN Because the TMG GT86 Cup no longer exists in its current form, Toyota Swiss Racing is discontinuing its activities. The champions Manuel Amweg and Frédéric Yerly now hope for another engagement. It is for sure that Thomas Amweg will start in the Berg-SM with the now perfectly running Lola F3000. One should stop [...]
You should quit when it's at its best... but in the case of Manuel Amweg and Frédéric Yerly, this happens rather involuntarily. The winners of the 2016 and 2017 TMG GT86 Cup in the Nürburgring Endurance Championship (VLN) have to find a new team.
After two championship titles and four class victories at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Toyota Switzerland is withdrawing from this scene. In 2016, Manuel Amweg captured the title with Thomas Lampert, and in 2017 with his brother-in-law Frédéric Yerly.
After an accident at the start of the 2017 season and thus a zero in the championship, Yerly made up for this shortcoming by taking pole position five more times, thus securing two additional points for the team each time. These were decisive, as the team successfully defended its title with a lead of just two points.
In 2018, Toyota Motorsport Gmbh (TMG) will no longer offer a Cup limited to the Nürburgring, but a worldwide classification for all drivers of a Toyota GT86, regardless of configuration. Reason enough for Toyota Switzerland to pull the plug, also for budget reasons.
How things will continue for Amweg and Yerly is uncertain at the moment, but they are hopeful.
Frédéric Yerly: "A sponsor has asked us not to do anything yet because he wants to continue with us. Now we are waiting with bated breath to see what he intends to do with us. Our wish would be to continue competing at the Nürburgring. We love these endurance races."
Thomas Amweg has no more problems with the Lola F3000
For sure, the program of the third driver from the famous Amweg family. With the help of a specialist from the team of sponsor Phimmoracing, Thomas Amweg got to the bottom of the problems on the Lola F3000 provided.
A faulty plug right next to the driver's seat disrupted the electrics in certain driving situations. With the Mader Cosworth engine now running smoothly and aerodynamic modifications expected to improve handling, Thomas Amweg is aiming for podiums in his first full F3000 season in the 2018 Swiss Mountain Championship.
