Sport: Equipe Bernoise is well on course
54th MAIN MEETING Evelyne Woodtli can be satisfied and proud after her first year as president of Equipe Bernoise. She and her colleagues on the board did an impeccable job. Switzerland's largest racing club is well back on track after the turbulent previous year. With more than 400 members, Equipe Bernoise has become the largest racing club in Switzerland since the demise of the SAR and FRC [...].
With more than 400 members, the Equipe Bernoise is the largest automobile sports association in Switzerland since the demise of the SAR and FRC. The tasks to be mastered by the board members in their spare time are correspondingly large.
Since her predecessor failed in the office of president he had assumed in 2016, Evelyne Woodtli, who stepped in as successor after cries for help, was seen as the new beacon of hope. The Bernese, who had already rendered outstanding services as president of the Renault Classic Cup and is a landlady at the Bären Sand restaurant by profession, solved the mammoth task with the help of her board colleagues with flying colors.
Evelyne Woodtli: "It took me six months to get up to speed. After that, I started cleaning up some of the construction sites and, at the same time, prepared new projects with my colleagues, such as the drivers' meeting or the inauguration of the regulars' table. It was an intense 365 days. I thank everyone who believed in us and trusted us."
Five championship titles to EB drivers
It was only logical that the 112 members present at the 54th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Gasthof Kreuz in Belp re-elected the president and the entire board with applause. But Woodtli warned: "The association only lives if everyone is committed. Only in this way can we show why we are the largest club."
Due to the strong proportion of active drivers, the EB is also very successful in sports. Thus, five members won a national or international title: Manuel Amweg (TMG GT86 Cup), Thierry Kilchenmann (OPC Challenge), Marcel Steiner (SM Rennsportwagen), Denis Wolf (Renault Classic Cup) and Sandro Zeller (Remus Formula 3 Cups).
Zeller, Steiner and Wolf also came out on top in the EB Racing Cup and in the Sponsor Cup supported by Carex. In the annual championship, which is open to all members and consists of fun events, Daniela Zürcher came out on top in the women's race and Patrick Küpfer in the men's race.
New OC President for Slalom Ambri
The most important events for the Equipe Bernoise are the slalom test days before the start of the season (this year on April 13/14 - only a few of the 60 places per day are still free!) and the final of the Swiss Slalom Championship (October 6/7, 2018), both in Ambri. The new OC president at the Ambri slalom is Jürg Gasser, who takes over this office from near namesake Jürg Strasser.
The annual accounts 2017 closed with a turnover of Fr. 197'708.70 with a small profit of Fr. 4948.-. Almost half of the expenses are for the organization of the Slalom Ambri.
Since this event was not able to cover all the costs in 2017, the OC hopes that the stricter safety conditions for the LOC riders (wearing a racing overall, which may also be older, will be mandatory) will not have too much of an impact on the number of participants.
