The investment paid off for Alex Fach. On the second weekend in June, the team from Sattel SZ made a guest appearance in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland with its two Supercup drivers Matt Campbell (AUS) and Josh Webster (GB). The idea behind this is that the fourth round of the Supercup will be held at the same venue as the Formula 1 race. The experience gained could then pay off.
First Campbell, then Bottas
The math worked out twice. Campbell celebrated victory in the international German field on June 10 and a third-place finish the other day. Last Sunday, the 22-year-old Porsche junior in Swiss service repeated this feat in impressive fashion. The Australian captured pole position and turned it into victory a few hours before Valtteri Bottas in the Mercedes also did so in Formula 1.
Matt Campbell is the winner of last October's Porsche Young Driver Sighting. Like Earl Bamber and Matteo Cairoli before him, he chose Fach Auto Tech as his Porsche Supercup entry.
And like them, he now joins the list of winners in Europe's oldest one-make cup. In the championship, Campbell worked his way up to third place after four of eleven races behind the veteran Michael Ammermüller (D) and Dennis Olsen (N).
Alex Fach's team didn't have much time to celebrate. The championship points are up for grabs again next weekend at Silverstone. There, Josh Webster enjoys home advantage, which could inspire him. In Spielberg, the Briton started fourth and finished sixth after 16 laps.
