Slalom Röthis: Swiss day in Vorarlberg

GRENZNAHES RENNEN The Röthis slalom attracted many Swiss drivers. Dominik Kälin was fastest in the racing cars, Christoph Zwahlen - back in the Opel Kadett - in the touring cars. Like the Arlbergrennen two weeks ago, the Röthis slalom on July 26 was part of the International Drytech Race Cup organized by the Renn & Rally Club Vorarlberg (RRCV) and the organizers' association. Traditionally, this event at the Drivingcamp Röthis actually takes place on the Easter weekend - but in the Corona year, everything is just a little different.

RCU pilots among themselves
The races of the close-to-production vehicles and for clubs took place on Sunday morning on partly still rain-soaked surfaces, those in the afternoon at increasingly high summer temperatures were reserved for the "hotter" devices and double starters from the morning.

No fewer than five drivers from Renn Club Untertoggenburg (RWU) took the top places in the morning. In the addition of the two fastest from three runs, Daniel Aeschlimann kept the upper hand over his Kadett colleagues Harry Eberle and André Etter thanks to his best times in the second and third runs. All three normally duel in the Interswiss Trophy, which cannot take place this year for well-known reasons.

Close winner of the day for Dominik Kälin
It was louder and faster in the afternoon. On the approximately 1.5 kilometer long and not too fast course, Dominik Kälin played the advantages of the small, agile Arcobaleno to the full. With 53.35 seconds, the rider from Schwyz set the best time of the day already in the first run.

Dominik Kälin specializes in the RRCV races with his Formula Arcobaleno. He was already the top-ranked Swiss in the Friday race at the Arlberg.

In the second and third run, Gerold Rainer from South Tyrol was the fastest with a similar and more modern Formula Gloria. In the end, however, the Swiss specialist of the RRCV slaloms and mountain slaloms was five hundredths ahead in the addition.

Christoph Zwahlen back in the Opel Kadett
The fastest driver with a roof over his head was Christoph Zwahlen. The man from Thurgau had entered his Porsche GT3 for both race fields in the afternoon. But when he saw the many Opel Kadett cars on the start list, he decided to change vehicles.

Thus, for the first time since the engine failure more than a year ago, he sat again in the now repaired and further modified 2.4-liter 16V Kadett. This is also the reason why the ranking list shows the displacement of the Porsche (3600 cc)...

Christoph Zwahlen: "The course is ideal for this car. Except for the gearshift interruption, everything worked well. It was awesome. In terms of fun, I'd actually always have to take the Kadett. But compared to the Porsche, it just gives more work."

Christoph Zwahlen showed up after more than a year with the Opel Kadett. The driving pleasure was back immediately.

With his time from the H+2000 group, Zwahlen finished third overall. In E1+2000, he had to give way to local hero Pascal Mathis. Mathis' Kadett with a 2.4-liter 8V engine is the car once driven by Ferdi Waldvogel, Danny Krieg and Zwahlen.

New winner in the Lotus V6 Cup
There was a new winner in the Lotus V6 Cup Suisse field. Daniel Strim already showed steady progress at the Arlberg and now took full advantage of the absence of champion Dino Wintsch.

The Rheintaler won with his Exige 430 Cup both in the class Competiton, as well as in the GTS over two liters. Mario Hedinger surprised with his second place in the Exige S, with which he left Cup leader Norbert Sieber in the somewhat less agile Evora LW-R and six other class opponents behind.

However, the second-fastest Lotus driver overall was Hermann Bollhalder, who took a superior victory in the Production class with his Exige.

Daniel Strim celebrated his first victory in the Lotus V6 Cup in the absence of the champion.

Inflow in Gargellen
The third round of the Drytech Race Cup will be held in Gargellen on August 22/23. There, Philip Egli and Marcel Maurer want to get back into the fight for the day's victory.

Likewise, Roger Schnellmann with his Mitsubishi mountain monster is on the start list of such a race for the first time.
