Slalom: Egli remains Chamblon winner

IT WAS NOT A GATE ERROR After the Chamblon slalom, Philip Egli demanded a revision of the classification. The jury agrees with him after video evidence. Thus, Egli remains unbeaten in the fight for day victories in 2019. Only after the expiry of the protest period Philip Egli had noticed after the Chamblon slalom on June 23 that he had been erroneously noted a gate fault. [...]

Philip Egli correctly drove his Dallara around all the gates at Chamblon. The jury is also convinced of this after the investigation.

It was only after the protest deadline had expired that Philip Egli realized after the Chamblon slalom on June 23 that he had mistakenly been given a gate penalty. Despite the time penalty, the Glarner resident of Zurich retained the class win in the race cars up to two liters displacement, which means he remains at the top of the slalom championship table with Martin Bürki and Hanspeter Thöni.

As a result, however, the prestigious stage win went to Lukas Eugster in the Ligier sports car for the first time. But the man from Herisau was just as unhappy about this as he was about the unjustified penalty.

Video and insight of the jury thanks
In the meantime, the jury has re-evaluated the case. It has come to the conclusion that Egli definitely did not touch or knock over any pylons. Egli could prove this with his on-board camera. We congratulate the old and new winner of the Chamblon 2019 slalom - and also Auto Sport Schweiz for this fair verdict, as the fault clearly lay with the marshal at that passage, who had wrongly noted a goal error by Egli.

Philip Egli: "I would have found it strange if the verdict had been different. My video evidence was clear. In karting, there are such objections from time to time, which are sometimes also approved."

Lukas Eugster and Philip Egli congratulated each other on their performances after the race in Chamblon. Now it is also clear who is really the winner of the day.

Can he manage a premiere?
His goal for the season is now clear: With the ideal Dallara F393 EPR-2, he now wants to win the last two slaloms in the overall classification on September 22 in Drognens (Romont 2) and on October 6 in Ambri. As far as we know, no driver has ever won all the slaloms in one season.

Philip Egli: "With a shorter gear ratio, Lukas is certainly even faster than before. And Marcel Maurer will also attack again. In Ambri, maybe Tiziano Riva will come back with his Formula 3000, so I will have to give everything to make this happen."

The fact that Egli won the two-liter class of race cars at Gurnigel in the rain was also a good and successful exercise. After all, it's quite possible that it could still be wet at the two fall races, although we wouldn't wish that on any organizer.
