Chamblon slalom: Egli and Bürki in a celebratory mood
SWISS SPORT At the seventh round of the slalom championships in Chamblon, day's winner Philip Egli (pictured) and Martin Bürki showed themselves in impressive form in their categories. The 4.3 km slalom on the extensive military grounds of Chamblon over wide fields and through forest sections is not everyone's cup of tea. "I prefer wider tracks and airfields. I've never been fast enough here," confessed Marcel Maurer before the start.
Philip Egli feels more at home here than at any other slalom. With two clear fastest times in his Dallara F3, the man from Zurich celebrated the day's victory ahead of the two Renault drivers Maurer and Planchamp, just like last year.
Behind seven racing cars, Martin Bürki with his small VW Polo was the fastest touring car driver for the third time in a row. Two running times in the same second proved that there is apparently no faster way. This means that the man from Berne remains unbeaten in the championship.
With reference to what can still go wrong, especially technically, he does not yet dare to talk about the fifth slalom title ready. Particularly as his equally consistent pursuers cannot be shaken off. With his fifth win of the season with his BMW M2 in the E1 class with the largest engine capacity, Albin Mächler is now second gross and net (one strike result) with a gap of 22 points - one failure by Bürki and the man from Schwyz is on him.
Daniel Wittwer did not manage a perfect run with his lightweight Golf 16V and had to give way to BMW driver Manuel Santonastaso in the E1 two-liter class. This currently costs the Bernese the second SM intermediate rank.
Second fastest from the touring car categories was Danny Krieg. Last year's Bergcup winner in the Audi A4 STW is getting more and more comfortable with the Porsche GT3 and saw himself rewarded with the clear IS group victory ahead of Stephan Burri in the 1600 Polo and Jürg Ochsner in the two-liter Cadet.
