Around 250 guests attended the closing ceremony of the 2018 autobau Swiss Kart Championship (SKM) last Saturday evening in Bern. The focus was on the many young and young-at-heart drivers who finished in the top ten in the six different categories.

Women's classification for the first time
There was also a women's classification for the first time this year. This was determined based on the number of points achieved by the female kart drivers in their respective categories.

The biggest trophy therefore went to eleven-year-old Ekaterina Lüscher. She took the runner-up title behind Shannon Lugassy in the super-mini category for the youngest.

All SKM 2018 champions: Ekaterina Lüscher, Shannon Lugassy, Patrick Näscher, Alessio Fagone, Elia Sperandio, André Reinhard and Danny Buntschu. All the other winners also received special wall clocks from sponsor Formex.

The other 2018 Swiss championship titles went to Elia Sperandio (Iame X30 Junior), Danny Buntschu (Iame X30 Challenge Switzerland), Alessio Fagone (OK Junior), Patrick Näscher (OK Senior) and André Reinhard (KZ2).

Role model Fabio Scherer
Andreas Michael, President of the National Sports Commission of Auto Sport Switzerland, took the opportunity to address a few words to those present beforehand. He then presented the awards and trophies together with Formula 3 racing driver Fabio Scherer.

Scherer is the role model par excellence for many kart drivers. The Lucerne native learned to race in the Kart-SM and even took part in an event in Wohlen this year. He took pole position in the OK Senior class and battled with champion Patrick Näscher for the race wins. In 2019, Scherer will compete in the new Formula 3 European Championship as part of Formula 1.
