Unfortunately only one woman
With 44 participants, the first of six qualifying rounds for the Swiss Simracing Series 2020 in Horgen was already very well attended. The only drop of bitterness: Barbara Baeriswyl, who drives in the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup in her "real" racing life, was the only woman to register. So she qualified in Horgen in the newly announced women's classification without competition for the final in Mollis in the summer.

Two Swiss champions ahead
Fastest in the men's race was defending champion Fredy Eugster. Driving the virtual Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, he completed his best lap on the digital GP circuit in Imola with a time almost four tenths of a second faster than Thomas Schmid. Schmid is the 2018 Swiss Rally and Hill Climb Champion Junior, who also qualified for the final last year.

As third fastest on the simulators at the RacingFuel Academy in Horgen, Nathanael Mahler makes it into the final for the first time. In fourth place, Goe Stettler was the best in the new Ü40 category.

Julien Apothéloz, winner of the 2018 Young Driver Challenge and race driver on TCR touring cars, was fifth fastest. The 19-year-old from Zurich can now try to qualify elsewhere.

Thomas Schmid also shows his strength in simracing. In 2018, he won two SM titles in automotive racing.

Defeat for the computer
The two RC cracks Simon Kurzbuch and Silvio Haechler are among the world's best in model racing. In the simulator, however, they had little experience and ranked in the Daily ranking only among the more distant.

There was also a robot in the field under the name Matthias Joerimann - and he took a clear low score. He set the same lap time twice with identical sector bests. But with a time of 1'49.739 he was far away from the best.

The second qualifying round will take place on March 7 at the Porsche Center Geneva. The race will then be held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg (A).
