Switzerland 2020: Four rounds with FIA predicate
INTERNATIONAL RACE TERMINALS One Swiss hill climb and three rallies will be part of an FIA championship in 2020. Formula E, on the other hand, is once again making a beeline for Switzerland after two years. At its meeting in Paris on December 6, the FIA World Motor Sport Council approved, among other things, the 2020 international racing calendar. Switzerland is the host of four events with FIA predicate.
Season highlight of the hill climbs
The St. Ursanne-Les Rangiers hillclimb race on August 15/16 counts as the third-last round of the European Hillclimb Championship. The 2019 title holders, who are tied on points, are Simone Faggioli, who is unbeaten in the Jura, in the sports car category and Christian Merli in the race car category.
Incidentally, in the 2020 European Hill Climb Championship, the FIA Hill Climb Cup and the FIA Hill Climb Masters (October 9-11 in Braga, Portugal), the closed cars will be divided into different classes for the first time according to a performance factor that has been worked out at length and no longer into conventional groups. An interesting comparison between national and international classes.
The race in the Jura is also likely to be the only one that really attracts numerous specialists from abroad to the start line because of the predicate, as has been the case up to now. As AutoSprintCH reported, this year's race was characterized by absolute speed records on the mountain.
Three FIA runs for the Historic
Two rallies count towards the FIA European Rally Trophy/Alps Rally Trophy: Rallye du Chablais from May 28 to 30 and Rallye International du Valais (RIV) from October 15 to 17.
Lovers of historic rally vehicles have reason to rejoice: the grand finale in Valais is also the final round of the FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship, which will comprise a total of nine events in 2020. Last October, the turnout was already impressive with 17 racy oldtimers and youngtimers from several nations. In 2020, not only SM points but also European Championship points are up for grabs.
In addition, the Alpine Challenge will be held in the Ollon/Villars area at the beginning of October as the only competition for the 2020 FIA Trophy for Historic Regularity Rallies, i.e. a regularity rally for historic vehicles.
No more Swiss E-Prix
As has long been known, however, there is no longer a Swiss E-Prix on the calendar. Following the Formula E organization's contract extensions with Bank Julius Baer as global sponsor and with ABB as title sponsor of the electric racing series, as well as with currently four Swiss drivers, efforts are underway in the background to bring a race back to Switzerland for the 2020/21 season or later.
