Tatiana Calderón is a member of Escuderia Telmex from Mexico, which promotes South American racing drivers. This enabled the 25-year-old Colombian to take part in a Formula 1 test with the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team three weeks ago following the Mexican GP.
Memories of Simona de Silvestro
Calderón will now be able to complete two more days of testing on the Ferrari test track in Fiorano this weekend in a Sauber C32 with a Ferrari V8 engine. Simona de Silvestro completed the same program in 2014 when she was an affiliated driver for Sauber.
The Vaud-based driver had to end her association with the Hinwil Formula 1 team prematurely for financial reasons, and it didn't really help her in sporting terms.
In Tatiana Calderón's case, there is more to it than that. She wants to take the next step in her learning process and development. Goal: promotion to a higher class.
Finished with GP3 - off to Formula 2?
According to her current team principal Andreas Jenzer, Tatiana does not want to remain in GP3 in 2019. It would be logical for her to enter FIA Formula 2, and the launch of the Sauber Junior Team would mean that she would be able to make the class switch within the team, so to speak. She would be the first woman in the most important junior class below Formula 1.
The two very last races of GP3, which has been in existence since 2010 and will become the new FIA Formula 3 in 2019, will take place on November 24/25 in the run-up to the Abu Dhabi GP. Jenzer Motorsport hopes to end the season there with a podium.
After her Formula 1 test drives, Andreas Jenzer has every confidence in his motivated driver. It would be the crowning glory of the season for both him and his driver.
