Renault Classic: Drive and have a say
A CELEBRATE START TO THE SEASON Before the 2018 Renault Classic Cup classics received their trophies, they voted on their 2019 annual program, which again included 13 races at slaloms, on the mountain and at the Hockenheimring. It hardly gets more compact and efficient than this. Although the Renault Classic Club had only 36 members at the end of December (down from 40 in 2017), [...]
It could hardly be more compact and efficient. Although the Renault Classic Club only had 36 members at the end of December (compared with 40 in 2017), 14 of them took part in one or more races in the 2018 Clio Classic Cup. On average, there were ten drivers per race. Significantly fewer on the circuit, but more on the hill.
Lots of prize money for this ASS-approved race series
Not only active members, but also more passives and patrons would be desired to fill the club's coffers. Depending on the amounts also on the part of the sponsors, who contributed 9000 francs in 2018, more prize money can be paid out.
The Classic Cup also pays the fee of almost 2700 Swiss francs to Auto Sport Schweiz in order to be recognized as a national racing series and enjoy a higher status - exemplary.
With a budget of around 22,000 Swiss francs, no less than 12,540 Swiss francs in prize money went to the winners. Champion Denis Wolf was able to collect a gross amount of 4,000 Swiss francs, Philipp Krebs in second place and René Schnidrig in third place also received considerable amounts, which are more than just a small bonus.
Better Hockenheim than Red Bull Ring
Before they and all other classified received their trophies and checks, they voted on their 2019 race program following the General Assembly. Compared to last year, there are two major changes.
Of the proposed circuit races, two German events at Hockenheim - on March 30/31 as the season opener and on July 6/7 - received the most votes. Too few were able to make a firm commitment to race at the Red Bull Ring at Whitsun, where only three club members made it in 2018.
Strong performance at hill climb
Because Romont stupidly overlaps with Hemberg in 2019, only the popular mountain race in Toggenburg received quite a few votes. As the second slalom after Interlaken (April 6), the season finale at the Ambri airfield (October 6) is thus once again on the schedule.
The preferred field of activity are the hill climbs, of which the same seven as in the previous year (all except Massongex) were included in the race calendar. One reason for this is the opportunity to score well in a separate class in the Swiss Mountain Cup. Philipp Krebs made the most of it in 2018 by taking the runner-up title here as well as in the Classic Cup.
Sara Zbinden new member of the board
The board with Roger D. Meyer, vice president Thomas Zürcher, treasurer Angelo Figus and Denis Wolf as assessor was confirmed by acclamation for another year. Sara Zbinden - the 22-year-old daughter of ex-president and honorary active member Stephan Zbinden - was elected as the fifth new board member to replace Debbie Cordeiro.
Their main task will be to strengthen the presence of the Renault Classic Cup in social networks and other media. The media support of AutoSprintCH is certain for the Renault Classic Club...
