Two years ago, Rolf Reding was the first Junior Mountain Champion from the Swiss Race Academy. Driving a Toyota GT86 from Swiss Driving Event in Seelisberg, the 25-year-old from Schwyz entered the SuperSeries in the 2018 season and was at the top of the Swiss Mountain Cup for a time. Lacking class strength, Reding fell out of the cup ranks at the end of the year, although, as in the previous year, he never suffered a defeat.
He therefore asked himself the question: what next? His former employer Alex Fach helped him find the right answer.
With Alexander Fach in the 991 GT3
The boss of the big Porsche team from Sattel is putting him in a 991 GT3 Cup together with son Alexander Fach in 2019. With this first-generation 991 car, the duo will race in the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse in Class 5d (model year 2013 to 2016) of the GT3 Cup Challenge.
Alex Fach: "I have always tried to find young drivers for the Supercup or another Porsche Cup. I enjoy promoting Alex and Rolf in this way. The fact that they are now driving the 3.8-liter instead of the 4-liter 991 is a conscious decision on our part. They are both enormously ambitious, and that takes some of the pressure off them. They can learn just as much with it and achieve top results."
One step further
During tests at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, they were able to get used to the new sports equipment. According to the team boss, they did very well.
Rolf Reding: "I could only have lost on the hill with a Toyota. Unfortunately, nothing else worked out. When I do something, I want to take a step forward, which is now the case. I'm looking forward to it, although now it's no longer about a championship, but about individual successes, as Alex and I take turns driving."
Start in the TCR car
His further development as a driver will also include two endurance races in a TCR touring car. With TTC Racing Switzerland, he may compete in the 12 Hours of Brno (CZ) on May 24/25 and the 24 Hours of Barcelona (E) from August 30 to September 1. Both races count towards the 24H Series.
Rolf Reding: "I can't thank both teams, Fach Auto Tech and TTC Switzerland, enough for this opportunity."
Six Porsche Weekends
The Porsche Sports Cup Suisse begins on the last weekend in April at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Thereafter, from June to October, further three-day events - one in each month - are on the calendar at Le Castellet, Imola, Dijon, Mugello and Misano.
