The renowned British trade magazine Autosport lists the world's 50 best car racers every year. A renowned jury judges the performances of the participants in 15 championships, starting with Formula 1.

The fact that world champion Lewis Hamilton is once again number 1 is certainly not surprising. However, they do not see his Mercedes GP teammate and runner-up Valtteri Bottas (12th) as second best, but rather the third-place finisher Max Verstappen from Red Bull Racing. World Rally Champion Ott Tänak from Estonia takes third place.

Buemi only second-best endurance driver
Sébastien Buemi's ranking proves that titles and victories alone are not a criterion. As winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship (WEC) as well as runner-up in FIA Formula E, the man from Vaud ranks a good 16th. However, Autosport rates his Toyota teammate Mike Conway higher (9th). At Le Mans, Conway was clearly the fastest driver in the field. Only a late puncture thwarted victory.

Rejection for Vettel
Although Fernando Alonso won at Le Mans and in the WEC with Buemi, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans in January, the Spaniard only finished nineteenth. However, this still puts Alonso ahead of Sebastien Vettel (24th), who was given a clear rebuff by the British. They awarded his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc fourth place.

Nico Müller received a lot of applause in 2019. His achievements are also honored with this ranking.

Confirmation for Nico Müller
Nico Müller, on the other hand, is proud that he made it into this exclusive ranking for the first time. With 33rd place, he even made it quite clearly. Autosport appreciates his clear improvement in the DTM in 2019 and the consistency with which he kept the title race open until the penultimate weekend. Champion René Rast's eighth place shows that the DTM is highly rated.

Norbert Michelisz, the Hungarian who won the WTCR, also made it into the illustrious circle in 44th place. In between is Kimi Räikkönen in 37th place - he was always much further ahead in previous years.
