Porsche: This is the 911 RSR for Le Mans

Porsche is starting the 2017 motorsport season with a completely newly developed GT race car. The new 911 RSR takes full advantage of the freedoms offered by the GT regulations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and, in addition to consistent lightweight construction, relies on the arrangement of the ultra-modern free-suction 6-cylinder boxer engine in front of the rear axle. Porsche 911 RSR: The new engine concept has enabled the designers to install a particularly large rear diffuser. This has significantly improved the downforce level and aerodynamic efficiency.

The new 911 RSR will celebrate its race track debut in January 2017 at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Porsche Head of Motorsport Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser: "While retaining the typical 911 design, this is the biggest evolution in the history of our top GT model to date. The chassis, body structure, aerodynamic concept, engine and transmission have been redesigned from the ground up. We deliberately chose a particularly modern and lightweight 510 hp naturally aspirated engine for the 911 RSR, because it gave our engineers great freedom in developing the vehicle." The power unit distributes its power to the 31-centimeter-wide rear wheels by means of a 6-speed sequential transmission operated by paddle shifters.

Multifunction steering wheel with integrated display, quick release and shift paddles: The Porsche 911 RSR features the radar-based "Collision Avoid System" collision warning system. This allows the faster LMP prototypes to be detected early on a monitor, even in the dark, and prevents misunderstandings.

Worldwide 19 factory missions with 140 hours of racing time
In the 2017 season, the new 911 RSR is expected to contest 19 factory events with more than 140 hours of racing. With two factory cars each, Porsche will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) including the 24 Hours of Le Mans as well as in the American IMSA Weathertech Championship.
