Porsche Cup Suisse: Dream start to the season

DOUBLE WIN FOR JUNIOR FACH The Porsche Sports Cup Suisse got off to a belated but successful start to the 2020 racing year at Hockenheim, with promotional driver Alexander Fach emerging as the first and double winner in GT3. For the first time, the Porsche Cup Suisse competed in Hockenheim, offering great motorsport - unfortunately in front of empty seats. Alexander Fach proved to be a revelation (Photos: Dirk-Michael Deckbar/Deckbar Photography).

The search for new champions has begun in both the GT3 Cup and the GT4 Challenge. In both classes, the reigning champions have decided not to defend their titles.

Alexander Fach made the best use of this advantage in the top class of the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup on the GP circuit of Hockenheim.

Almost the maximum score
The 18-year-old from Schwyz - one of two newly nominated support drivers from the Association of Swiss Porsche Clubs (VSPC) and Porsche Schweiz AG - dominated both sprint races. The son of the owner of Fach Auto Tech from Sattel secured almost maximum points with two sprint race wins, a fastest race lap and second place in qualifying.

However, it wasn't quite as easy as it sounds for the junior in Hockenheim. At the start of the first race, he initially had to concede second place to Gregor Burkard. On lap 4, Fach regained the position and also caught Dominik Fischli, who had been leading until then, in the eleventh round.

With modesty to the winners' podium
The double winner of the season opener admitted that he had actually traveled to Hockenheim without any great expectations.

Alexander Fach: "I hadn't sat in a race car since the season finale in Misano last year. I didn't know the track and the current 911 GT3 Cup with the four-liter engine was still foreign to me. I was very happy about second place in qualifying. In the race I wanted above all not to cause any damage and to score points. The fact that I was able to win both races is mega and a dream start to the new season."

This is what youthful winners look like when they take off their helmets. Alexander Fach managed a brilliant start to the season.

Painful time penalties for Dominik Fischli...
Dominik Fischli, who has also been sponsored by the VSPC and Porsche Schweiz AG since this year, had already demonstrated his talent as the fastest in the final practice session. The driver from Remetschwil finished the first race in second place and set the fastest race lap.

In the second, Fischli, like several competitors this weekend, received a time penalty for exceeding the track limits. So he had to settle for 7th place.

Dominik Fischli could only enjoy the lead for a short time. But there is still a lot to expect from him as well.

... and for Antonio Texeira
Antonio Teixeira, who is in his second year as a support pilot, was less fortunate. Starting from sixth place in the first 15-lap sprint, he worked his way up to fifth place. However, the Swiss-Portuguese driver immediately collected 40 penalty seconds because of the track limits.

Texeira thus started the second race from tenth position. He was already seventh after the first lap and fifth at the halfway point of the race - only to drop back to eleventh position in the tenth lap. Time penalties for other drivers moved him back up to eighth place.

The Burkards in a celebratory mood
The Burkard family, in turn, was pleased with three podium finishes. After finishing third in the first sprint, Gregor Burkard repeated this result in the second race, but now behind his brother Ricardo, who had previously finished fourth.

One position behind this duo was Peter Hegglin ahead of Andreas Sczepansky.

Both GT4 wins to an Italian
Similar to Alexander Fach, Francesco Fenici from Rome dominated the action in the Cayman GT4 Cup. Second place in both races went to Thomas Brauch.

With the most consistent driving style, Robert Schwaller at the wheel of his 911 GT3 decided the Porsche Drivers Competition Suisse in his favor.

We will go into detail about the GT4 Cup, the GT Open and the outcome of the uniformity test in a separate report later this week.
