Porsche Cup Suisse: Everyone is welcome 🎥

In the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse, sometimes well over 100 drivers have been romping around in various sports cars since 2008. The racing series, which is sanctioned by Auto Sport Schweiz, is held exclusively on circuits abroad.
Postponed season opener
The starting signal was actually supposed to be given next weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg (A). However, this is not possible due to the Corona restrictions. Previously, the test drives scheduled at Le Castellet and Hockenheim had to be canceled.
The next Porsche Weekend 2020 would be scheduled for early June at the popular circuit in southern France. Whether the season opener can now take place there, or at best one or two weeks later, is highly uncertain.
Circuit advantage
At the Association of Swiss Porsche Clubs, which has been acting as organizer together with Porsche Schweiz AG since 2017, no stone is left unturned to offer its sportiest members an attractive program as soon as this is permitted again.
At least the VPCS is better off than the organizers of national slaloms and hill climbs who have been forced to cancel. Circuit operators can take their own measures to comply with safety regulations imposed by their authorities in order to allow races.
The Swiss Porsche athletes can therefore hope, even though they will probably have to do without racing for a long time yet.
Xavier Penalba, Sports Director PCS: "We are dependent on many factors. In addition to the race tracks, the hotels and the borders must be open again. Because the Formula 1 cancellations are freeing up tracks, there are new possibilities. We are also thinking about how we can run the championship with enough rounds - possibly up to three per weekend. We have ideas and are looking at how we can implement them."
Anyone who drives a Porsche can join in
Once the race gets underway, the drivers and spectators will be treated to the best racing - where and when permitted again. From street-legal production models to thoroughbred racing cars, Porsche models of all types and ages are permitted.
In 2019, 115 drivers scored points in the various racing classes. In addition, there were 47 in the Porsche Drivers Challenge, which is all about consistent lap times within a time window - racing without risk, so to speak.
Three fields fight for a championship title
This season, the Porsche Cup Suisse changes with a new naming of the race classes and group allocation. The GT3 Cup cars will race with the Cayman GT4 Clubsport and all cars classified in the Open GT in different fields for the joint Porsche Sprint Challenge Suisse.
As in the Porsche Supercup as part of Formula 1, the GT3 Cup sports cars from the current 991.2 model series will be competing in the premier class in the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse. They feature a 485-hp four-liter engine and a six-speed sequential transmission. The predecessor models from the 2013 to 2016 model years (3.8 liters, 460 hp) run in a sub-ranking.
In the GT4 group, in which Cayman GT4 Clubsport will compete, more than 20 rivals and fascinating wheel-to-wheel duels are expected again in 2020. In its current Clubsport version, the 425-hp rear-wheel drive car has a 3.8-liter six-cylinder mid-engine.
The GT Open classification offers a much greater variety of models: In separate classes, a wide variety of two-door Porsche sports cars from current and older model years, from the 944 Cup and 911 Cup vehicles of various generations to the modern 911 GT2 RS and modified racing machines, will be competing.
Ideal for newcomers
The PDC is particularly suitable for newcomers to motorsport: The uniformity competition within the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse can be contested with standard road-going sports cars. Special conversions such as roll cages or fire extinguishing systems are not prescribed, the driver must wear a standardized helmet and a fireproof racing overall in accordance with current FIA specifications.
Instead of battling for position, the aim is to achieve identical lap times on the track: In the end, the winner is the one who has allowed himself the smallest deviation from his own average value in each of his ten laps.
Professional introduction to motorsport
New to the program is the Porsche Track Experience and the newcomer course "Introduction to Racetrack" included in the offer.
Here, race track newcomers can experience the fascination of Porsche Motorsport live and, in addition to a great deal of theoretical knowledge, also gain their first practical experience under the guidance of experienced instructors before, for example, actively entering the Porsche Drivers Competition or the Sprint Challenge.
